Ground-based weather radars emerged during World War II and have since been used to observe precipitation, mostly over land. Ground-based radars send out pulses of microwave energy in narrow beams that scan in a circular pattern. When the microwave pulse encounters precipitation particles in the atmosphere, the energy is scattered in all directions, sending some energy back to the radar. These measurements are used to estimate intensity, altitude, precipitation type(e. g., rain, snow, hail), and motion. Obtaining continuous measurements of precipitation from ground-based systems(e. g., from rain gauges and radar systems) presents a challenge due to large gaps between monitoring sites on land and huge gaps over the ocean. 1, record 2, English, - ground%2Dbased%20weather%20radar

Research has shown that while in French climbing techniques are divided into "escalade intérieure" and "escalade extérieure" depending on the configuration of the rock, such a division does not usually appear in recent English texts. Furthermore, it appears that no consensus has yet been reached as to the number of classes in which to divide the climbing techniques. Both these observations have been confirmed by the manager of Toronto's Mountain Equipment Co-op, who said that the terms "interior" and "exterior"/"face" climbing are not used, and that each climber names the climbing according to the climbing technique required which, in turn, is determined by the type of rock(the way it presents itself to the climber). 4, record 8, English, - interior%20climbing

1, record 12, French, - Les%20langues%20officielles%20et%20les%20minorit%C3%A9s%20visibles%20dans%20la%20fonction%20publique%20%3A%20Une%20enqu%C3%AAte%20qualitative%20sur%20les%20obstacles%20%C3%A0%20l%27avancement%20professionnel

Instead of relationships between two entities, ORM presents the "roles" that entities, attributes and domains play in the organization's structure. Indeed, these roles define the relationships between entities. Roles(Relationships for our purposes here) are represented by adjacent boxes containing the two or more relationship names and connected to the entities by solid lines. Relationships are not limited to being binary. Tertiary and higher order relationships are permitted. In many ways, ORM is the most versatile and most descriptive of the modeling techniques presented here. It has an extensive capability for describing constraints that apply to sets of entities and attributes. It is not oriented just towards entities and relationships, but toward objects and the roles they play--where an "object" may be an entity, an attribute, or a domain. It is constructed to make it easy to describe diagrams in English, although it lacks a discipline for constructing the English sentences. 1, record 14, English, - Object%20Role%20Modeling

Both these observations have been confirmed by the manager of Toronto's Mountain and Equipment CO-OP, Mr Bob Matheson, who said that the terms "interior" and "exterior"/"face" climbing are not used, and that each climber names the climbing according to the climbing technique required which, in turn, is determined by the type of rock(the way it presents itself to the climber). 1, record 15, English, - exterior%20climbing

When these species hybridize in this transition area, forestry programs face special problems in identifying seedlots that have the desired genetic makeup of source material collected from traditional seed zones. Unplasticized PVC presents some processing difficulties due to its high melt viscosity; in addition, the finished product is too brittle for some applications. To overcome these problems and to produce toughening, certain polymeric additives are usually added to the PVC. These materials, known as impact modifiers, are generally semicompatible and often somewhat rubbery in nature. Among the most important impact modifiers in use today are butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymers(nitrile rubber), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS) graft terpolymers, methacrylate-butadiene-styrene(MBS) terpolymers, chlorinated polyethylene, and some polyacrylates. 4, record 20, English, - impact%20modifier

The pediatric nephrologist has traditionally not been involved in the care of the diabetic child since diabetic nephropathy presents in adulthood. Recent studies suggest that diabetic kidney disease develops silently during childhood. Measurement of urinary albumin excretion(UAE) allows earlier detection of patients at risk of nephropathy, often in adolescence. In addition to diabetic nephropathy, diabetic children are at risk of urinary tract infections, renal papillary necrosis, and various forms of glomerulonephritis. The role of the pediatric nephrologist in the care of the child with diabetes might include advising on the administration and interpretation of screening for UAE and the measurement and interpretation of glomerular filtration rate, and blood pressure. Children with evidence of renal dysfunction should be evaluated and treated by the pediatric nephrologist. Frequently, renal biopsy will be necessary in these patients. Future research may allow the detection of diabetic kidney disease earlier in childhood, further expanding the role of the pediatric nephrologist. In particular, early renal biopsy may eventually be used to select those patients at risk of diabetic nephropathy for specific treatment alterations. 2, record 21, English, - pediatric%20nephrologist

It then becomes possible to participate in choosing the direction for the evolution of a story, or to access different viewpoints on a particular subject or body of knowledge, or even to choose a preferred language from several foreign language commentaries. "Interactive audio" techniques like these are used within the context of a graphical interface that provides special screen buttons or "icons" on which the user has to click to trigger the audio sequences-so that, for example, clicking on an icon featuring the French tricolour might call up a spoken commentary in French. 1, record 24, English, - interactive%20audio%20techniques

... a computer-based microworld, called the Envisioning Machine, presents graphical models of velocity and acceleration(see Roschelle, 1987).... The Envisioning Machine is a computer program designed to teach students about velocity and acceleration. It is a microworld-based system with two windows. The bottom window depicts the "Observable World". In this window, different motions of a ball are modeled. The top window depicts the "Newtonian World" which can contain two particles. These particles are graphical representations of properties of motion.... The students’ task is to watch a ball in the Observable World and then set the position, velocity, and acceleration of a particle in the Newtonian World so as to model the motion of the ball. 2, record 25, English, - envisioning%20machine

Most of the mineral matter in fossil fuels such as coal or lignite is converted during combustion to a fused, glassy bottom ash which presents no air pollution problems. Smaller ash particles called fly ash enter furnace flues and, in a properly equipped stack system, are collected efficiently. However, some of the fly ash particles escape through the stack and enter the atmosphere. Unfortunately, these tend to be the smaller particles which do the most damage to human health, plants, and visibility. 1, record 26, English, - ash%20particle

In recent years "slide-tape" presentations have become increasingly popular. These are achieved by coupling a slide projector with a tape recorder(or cassette(audio) player) ;slides in the projector are advanced automatically by an inaudible pulse on one of the stereophonic channels, while the second channel of the tape presents the audio message, narration, or music. 1, record 27, English, - audio%20message
