THICK EMULSION [7 records]

CONT

… the twin-image problem of conventional holography is a direct consequence of the fact that the hologram is recorded on a two‑dimensional surface. Like optical volume holography, which overcomes this problem by recording a diffraction pattern on a thick photographic emulsion, multienergy [holographic crystallography] HXT does so by recording the pattern in a volume of reciprocal space.

CONT

By means of the emulsion chambers exposed at shallow depth underground, the energy spectrum and the zenith angle distribution are measured for high-energy showers induced by cosmic-ray muons.... The emulsion chamber is constituted by lead absorber and photosensitive layers, piled up alternately. In the emulsion chamber with typical constitution, each photosensitive layer, which is interposed at every layer of lead 1 cm thick, consists of a nuclear emulsion plate... and two sheets of industrial X-ray films...

CONT

When high-energy showers are produced by muons in the emulsion chambers, they are recorded as black spots on X-ray films.

CONT

Dental film itself is composed of an emulsion, that is, gelatin containing a silver compound coated on a tinted base which is made from a cellulose derivative. The base is about 0. 008 inch thick.(...) The large sheets of emulsion-coated base which is to become dental film are cut to the size used for one of the several types of dental film. It is then either made into a packet for the intraoral work or packaged for extraoral use.

DEF

A viscous seawater-in-oil emulsion resulting from oil spills, pollutes shorelines and makes it difficult to clean them.

CONT

The formation of an emulsion changes the physical characteristics of the oil and the way it behaves on the water surface. Perhaps the most familiar type of emulsion is "chocolate mousse, "a thick jelly-like dark brown water-in-oil emulsion; "mousse" moves on the surface of the water...

DEF

Shaving the layers of the film from the emulsion takes practice and patience. An over anxious retoucher usually ends up with an uneven job, or worse yet a few deep gouges. Keep the blade in motion, moving with small strokes in one direction-never back and forth. After etching, apply retouching fluid to the emulsion if lead will be used. Care must be taken when applying the fluid to avoid lines of demarcation. When applying retouching fluid or "dope", be sure the fluid is either fresh or thin. Thick, tacky retouching fluid will create a dust problem. Artist turpentine of methanol are good thinners to add to thickened fluid. Again, handle all chemicals with caution. Apply the retouching fluid only within the facial area when working on b/w portraiture.
