A chemical compound which appears under the form of a yellow powder, constitutes a kind of alkaline oxide with comparatively stable chemical property, is slightly soluble in acids, completely dissolved in thick hydrochloric acid without reaction with water, and is used in coating, printing ink and paint, and also as a coloring agent for building material, rubber and paper-making.

DEF

The plastic base of videotape.

CONT

The tape backing, consisting of 0, 001" thick Mylar or acetate, is coated with 0, 004" of a gamma ferric oxide suspended in a binder. Several materials have been used as a backing material for the oxide. Cellophane, paper and PVC were used with varying success but have now been superseded by Mylar(Terylene), polyester and cellulose acetate.

Subject field(s)
  • Economic Geology
  • Metals Mining
  • Various Metal Ores
CONT

Mineable deposits consist of selected oxide facies with cumulative thicknesses typically from 30 to 150 m and strike lengths of several kilometers. Repetition of the iron-formation strata by folding and faulting to provide thick sections for mining, and enlargement of mineral grain size by metamorphic processes are important factors in the development of mineable deposits.

Pyrite - [...]

CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electrical Engineering
CONT

In spite of its advantages, the process of oxidizing from the upper surface to form a passive isolation region suffers from inherent limitations associated with the oxide growth process. The conversion of exposed silicon to oxide to a given depth below an exposed silicon surface requires the growth of approximately twice that amount of oxide above the surface. For thicknesses beyond 20, 000 angstroms of oxide, oxide growth slows to the point of impracticality and thus the oxide isolation approach is limited to semiconductor devices formed in epitaxial layers from one and a half microns to 2 microns thick.

CONT

Compressed magnesium oxide isolation.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Électrotechnique
CONT
