Hauyne can be distinguished by its isotropic nature, negative relief and poor cleavage(which is usually not observed in thin section). Low birefringence sections of nepheline resemble hauyne. Analcime is very similar but is not blue and has poor cubic cleavage. Fluorite has lower relief and good cubic cleavage. An adhesive, usually a coating of wax is applied to the emulsion side of a wrong reading image positive stripping film. A sharp but delicate knife is used to cut around the type image and using a pair of tweezers, the thin emulsion layer is peeled off and positioned on a clear map overlay. Finally, by using a burnishing tool, the thin emulsion layer containing the type image and coated with wax, is rubbed down thereby ensuring better adhesion. There are several different types of photoelectric cells. In some [i. e., phototubes] there is a light-sensitive surface [a photocathode] which emits electrons and a second electrode, usually maintained at a fairly high positive potential, which collects the electrons... Solar cells, widely used to provide energy for satellites and space vehicles, are photovoltaic cells converting radiant energy into electrical energy. A familiar form uses a very perfect silicon crystal which is treated with trace impurities to introduce extra positive charges on one side of a thin wafer and extra negative charges on the other side... Radiant energy disturbs the electrical balance of the charges and thereby induces an emf which continues as long as light strikes the crystal... Dans l'Encyclopédie internationale des sciences et des techniques on utilise le terme dans ce même sens général. Par contre, dans le Dictionnaire mémento d'électronique, Dunot, éd. Paris 1969, page 59, on exclut les phototubes. On retrouve donc, en français, la même diversité de sens des termes qu'en anglais. A mask is a thin black and white negative made from a transparency. It has no density in areas corresponding to the densest areas of the transparency. The mask is sandwiched together with the transparency to reduce the overall contrast or density range of a transparency while printing. An unsharp mask also increases sharpness at light/dark edges in the print. The light/dark edges of an unsharp mask are fuzzy so there is a ramp transition from light to dark. The corresponding edges in the transparency are sharp.
