... the patients had unusual antibodies that trigger clotting reactions, which use up the body's platelets and can block blood vessels, leading to potentially deadly strokes or embolisms. The symptoms resemble a rare reaction to the drug heparin, called heparin-induced thrombocytopenia(HIT), in which the immune system makes antibodies to a complex of heparin and a protein called platelet factor 4(PF4), triggering platelets to form dangerous clots throughout the body. 4, record 1, English, - vaccine%2Dinduced%20immune%20thrombotic%20thrombocytopenia

6, record 4, French, - an%C3%A9mie%20infectieuse%20des%20%C3%A9quid%C3%A9s

Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia with thrombosis(HITT) is a paradoxical prothrombotic complication of anticoagulant therapy. As many as 3% of patients undergoing cardiac surgery develop clinical HIT [heparin-induced thrombocytopenia] presenting as thrombocytopenia with or without thrombosis within 5–10 days of heparin exposure. Thrombotic complications associated with HIT carry a mortality rate of 5–10%. 2, record 5, English, - heparin%2Dinduced%20thrombocytopenia%20with%20thrombosis
