THROMBOEMBOLISM [13 records]

Record 1 2025-10-24

English

Subject field(s)
  • Human Diseases - Various
  • Vessels (Medicine)
CONT

ATOS is the least common form of TOS [thoracic outlet syndrome]... However, of the TOS subtypes, ATOS has the greatest potential for serious complications, and therefore surgical intervention is promptly warranted in patients demonstrating arterial compression. Thoracic outlet compression on the subclavian artery(SCA) can cause poststenotic dilation, leading to aneurysm formation, which can result in distal thromboembolism and further ischemic complications. Embolization to the arm or hand is common in patients with ATOS, usually causing discoloration of the affected upper extremity.... Patients can present in several ways, but all have in common an abnormality at the SCA usually combined with a bony abnormality.

CONT

Syndrome du défilé thoracique artériel. Il survient lorsque l'artère est comprimée. La compression artérielle entraîne des dommages à sa paroi. Cela peut causer un anévrisme de l'artère ou diminuer la circulation dans le bras.

DEF

A drug used to prevent the formation of blood clots by hindering coagulation of the blood.

CONT

Blood-thinners(anticoagulants) have various uses. Some are used for the prophylaxis(prevention) of thromboembolic disorders; others are used for the treatment of thromboembolism. Anticoagulant solutions are also used for the preservation of stored whole blood and blood fractions. Anticoagulants are also used to keep laboratory blood specimens from clotting.

CONT

Distinctions are made between: 1. Oral anticoagulants - of coumarin type, which inhibit the synthesis of vitamin-K-dependent coagulation factors in the liver - thrombocyte aggregation inhibitors, which exert their effect by inhibiting aggregation of blood platelets 2. Intravenous or subcutaneous "heparinoid" anticoagulants.

Serum protein reagent D-Dimer(DD) is a specific degradation product of cross-linked fibrin that can be used as a marker of venous thromboembolism for diagnosing of deep venous thrombosis of the lower limbs and pulmonary embolism.

CONT
