Although sometimes found in stagnant water, apple snails are more common in lakes and rivers where the water is clear and high in oxygen. These large, herbivorous snails usually breathe with their gills, but they can also obtain oxygen from the air through a lunglike structure in the mantle. After mating, a female apple snail lays masses of 1/4-inch eggs on plant stems and low branches near water. The young snails drop into the water after hatching. 1, record 6, English, - apple%20snails

Après l'accouplement la femelle pond des masses d'œufs de 6 mm (1/4 po) sur des tiges ou des rameaux près de l'eau. Hoarfrost [is] a deposit of interlocking ice crystals formed by direct sublimation on objects, usually those of small diameter freely exposed to the air, such as tree branches, plant stems and leaf edges, wires, and poles. Also, frost may form on the skin of an aircraft when a cold aircraft flies into warm and moist air or when it passes through air that is supersaturated with water vapor. Hoarfrost is formed similarly to the way dew is formed except that the temperature of the frosted object must be below freezing. Frost forms when air with a dew point below freezing is brought to saturation by cooling. In addition to its formation on freely exposed objects(air hoar), hoarfrost also forms inside unheated buildings and vehicles, in caves, in crevasses(crevasse hoar), on snow surfaces(surface hoar), and in air spaces within snow, especially below a snow crust(depth hoar). Hoarfrost is more fluffy and feathery than rime, which in turn is lighter than glaze. Hoarfrost is designated light or heavy(frost) depending upon the amount and uniformity of deposition. 6, record 17, English, - hoar%20frost

The ocean basins are characterized by a central ridge structure that divides the basin about in half. This midoceanic ridge consists of submarine hills that rise gradually to a rugged central zone. Precisely in the center of the ridge, at its highest point, is the axial rift, which is a narrow, trench-like feature. The location and form of this rift suggest that the crust is being pulled apart along the line of the rift. Peatmoss is the common factor of muskeg and is where the term peatland is derived from. Pieces of herbs, shrubs and wood, such as buried tree branches, roots, or whole trees, can also make up a portion of the organic soil. Sphagnum moss is the mainstay of muskeg. Decomposing and fragmented particles are those snow crystals that have in some way been changed from their original form. This change can be through mechanical action(such as with wind) or through natural processes such as rounding(in which a crystal loses its original form and its branches... can become detached from the original crystal). Parts of the original crystal forms may still be discernible. Cloud-to-ground [discharge. ]... Once a sufficiently high voltage difference exists for electrical breakdown to begin in the cloud, a streamer of electrons develops. This, in turn, can become a "stepped leader, "which approaches the earth in a series of rapid steps... The stepped leader produces an ionized channel(molecules in its path are stripped of electrons) and tends to follow a downward branching path. As soon as one of the branches is within five to 50 meters of the surface, another streamer advances upward to meet it along the path of least resistance(often through tall and pointed objects). Now an ionized path a few centimeters in diameter connects earth with cloud. Next, the "return stroke, "which carries a surge of current, travels up the ionized channel, lighting up the paths taken by the stepped leader. 4, record 34, English, - channel

The accumulator is intended for heating fuel components in the rocket and space engines and can be used in space engineering, aircraft and other branches of industry. The task of increasing gas heating efficiency, reducing mass of the construction, diminution of dimensions and lowering thermal and hydraulic losses of heated gas is solved by making a heat accumulating element as a mono-unit in the form of cylinder. The covers with branch pipes are recessed in the ends of the mono-unit. The covers are butt joined to mono-unit on conical surfaces through pressurizing end seals at forming the collectors for gas feed and discharge. Plate electric heater and channels or annular slot for flowing gas are located along the longitudinal axis. The axis of channels or annular slot location divides the mass of heat accumulating element into two equal parts. In so doing, porous insert or a set of badly stream-lined bodies is in the channels or annular slot. All units of heat accumulator are coated with gas-dense material. 2, record 36, English, - annular%20slot

In aeolid nudibranchs the mantle is extended into long finger-like projections called cerata(singular, ceras). The cerata contain branches of digestive gland and often this is visible through the ceratal epidermis. In aeolids the tips of the cerata contain cnidosacs which usually store nematocysts(stinging cells) that are obtained from ingested cnidarian prey, such as hydroids, sea-anemones and soft corals. If disturbed, the nudibranch is capable of discharging these stinging cells through a terminal pore in the ceras; this is an effective deterrent to predatory fish. 1, record 42, English, - cerata
