Active grille shutters, which improve efficiency by opening and closing automatically to control airflow, are popping up on a number of new [car] models... When they’re open, the shutters allow air to flow through the radiator and into the engine compartment, as usual, to promote cooling. But when that cooling air is not needed, the shutters close, rerouting air around the vehicle to lessen aerodynamic drag and reduce fuel consumption. As an added bonus, closed shutters also reduce warm-up time in cold weather. 7, record 4, English, - active%20radiator%20grille%20shutters

Express toll lanes are special lanes added to highways that allow motorists to pay their way out of traffic jams. Motorists in an express toll lane pay a fee that is automatically deducted through an electronic reader as their car or truck moves along at highway speeds, similar to the way E-ZPass works. The price would change with the degree of congestion, so that a premium is charged when the rest of the roadway is especially crowded but the toll drops as the highway empties. 2, record 24, English, - express%20toll%20lane

Scintillation is caused by air parcels of different densities moving through the line of sight, thereby causing varying refraction of light coming from distant objects. 2, record 30, French, - scintillation

While grain is moving through the system, an extensive sanitation program ensures that quality is maintained. For example, many elements in the Commission's quality control efforts ensure that grain shipped is free of pesticide residues. It is illegal for a producer to deliver contaminated grain to a licensed elevator. If an inspector at the terminal discovers evidence of chemical contamination in a car being unloaded, he immediately orders the grain segregated. The grain is tested by the Research Laboratory and the owner of the grain is advised of requirements for disposal. Cable-Reel Shuttle Cars... were introduced in 1939, the year following the first(battery) shuttle car. Practically all present shuttle cars are powered through cable reels. Reels usually hold 500 ft of cable and, therefore, the maximum haul distance should be kept under 400 ft whenever possible. Cable-reel cars are either standard-hand or opposite-standard-hand models. Standard-hand control means that the seats for the operator, together with the controls, are located on the left front or discharge end of the car similar to the operator's position in an American car or truck. An opposite-hand-control car would have the operator sitting on the right-hand side of the car facing forward when traveling to the discharge point. The cable reel always is located on the side opposite the operator. 1, record 52, English, - cable%2Dreel%20shuttle%2Dcar
