In a communication system, the end-to-end delay of a packet may be defined as the time from its generation at the source to when the packet reaches its destination. In a packet-switched communication system, the delay for packets to travel from source to destination may vary depending upon various operating conditions, including but not limited to, channel conditions and network loading. Channel conditions refer to the quality of the wireless link. Some factors determining the quality of the wireless link are signal strength, speed of a mobile and/or physical obstructions. The end-to-end delay includes the delays introduced in the network and the various elements through which the packet passes. Many factors contribute to end-to-end delay. Variance in the end-to-end delay is referred to as jitter. 3, record 2, English, - end%2Dto%2Dend%20delay

... when the remote clock frequency is consistently higher than the local clock frequency, the end-to-end system delay increases. ... channeling is a problem specific to pool sand filters. When the sand(or crushed glass) media captures enough material that changes its physical properties, [the] sand's ability to screen particles out of water is reduced. It creates uneven pressure spots where water is trying to force its way through the media. Eventually, these uneven pressure spots in the filter can form an opening, called a channel. When the channel opens up enough, unfiltered water can flow through it and bypass the majority of the sand.... Cloudy pool water is almost inevitable at that point. 3, record 14, English, - channelled%20filter

Neuroscientists need more efficient and less intrusive ways to observe brain circuits, in which electrical signals pass from one neuron to the next.... A radically new approach—a molecular ticker tape—would, in one scenario, place a single strand of DNA with a known sequence of letters, or nucleotides, inside a cell but near its surface. An enzyme, DNA polymerase, would then add new nucleotides that bind to form a double-stranded molecule... When a neuron fires, an influx of calcium ions coming through a newly opened membrane channel would cause the enzyme to add the wrong nucleotides..., an error that could be detected when the DNA strand is later sequenced. 1, record 27, English, - molecular%20ticker%20tape

Device enabling a larger surface area to be obtained without making large and unwieldy stacks of flat membrane. One only has to mould the membrane into a tube and then incorporate a number of such membrane tubes into a cartridge; liquid can then be recirculated through the cartridge and sufficient pressure for ultra-filtration obtained by restricting the flow downstream of the cartridge. In some systems the membrane may be moulded round a plastic rod which is grooved to produce a thin channel effect; it has been suggested that this is more efficient in reducing concentration polarization than a hollow membrane tube. The chief purpose of establishing diplomatic relations and permanent missions is to serve a means by and through which states are able to communicate with each other. Such communications, which may for example take the form of conversations between the minister for foreign affairs of the state receiving the mission(the receiving state), and the ambassador of the state sending the mission(the sending state), pass from one government to another through the "diplomatic channel". Since each state normally has not only its own diplomatic mission in the capital of the foreign state, but also a diplomatic mission of the foreign state in its own capital, there are two diplomatic channels. 1, record 51, English, - diplomatic%20channel

1, record 55, Spanish, - convenio%20bilateral%20de%20pago

The Special Program of Assistance for Africa(SPA) was established in 1987 as a response to the economic crises of the debt-distressed countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. An informal association of donors, the SPA was intended to support the countries structural adjustment programs with the International Development Association and the International Monetary Fund. The SPA did respond to the challenge. Free of the restrictive formality of other fora, donors were able to test ideas and develop a mutual understanding. High-level donor representation provided the opportunity for meaningful interactions with World Bank and IMF policy makers. The SPA helped to channel substantial quick-disbursing aid. Through peer pressure, it improved donor procedures. It broadened its agenda to address structural impediments to broad-based development. It provided a platform for frank and open exchanges on Africa's economic and social policy issues. It facilitated a convergence of development assistance goals and practices while preserving flexibility. 1, record 60, English, - Special%20Program%20of%20Assistance%20for%20Africa

1, record 60, French, - Programme%20sp%C3%A9cial%20d%27assistance%20%C3%A0%20l%27Afrique

Bottom scattering is a complex physical phenomenon. Cloud-to-ground [discharge. ]... Once a sufficiently high voltage difference exists for electrical breakdown to begin in the cloud, a streamer of electrons develops. This, in turn, can become a "stepped leader, "which approaches the earth in a series of rapid steps... The stepped leader produces an ionized channel(molecules in its path are stripped of electrons) and tends to follow a downward branching path. As soon as one of the branches is within five to 50 meters of the surface, another streamer advances upward to meet it along the path of least resistance(often through tall and pointed objects). Now an ionized path a few centimeters in diameter connects earth with cloud. Next, the "return stroke, "which carries a surge of current, travels up the ionized channel, lighting up the paths taken by the stepped leader. 4, record 73, English, - channel

Both radio broadcasting and fiber optic systems require three essential elements : a transmitter, a transmission medium and a receiver. Instead of a radio wave transmitter and modulator to set the broadcast frequency and power the signal through the air, optical systems use modulators to establish an optical frequency, or channel, on a laser beam and feed it through a fiber. An optical frequency receiver then collects the messages, much in the manner of a radio set. And, just as tunable radio receivers let listeners select from among a number of stations, a tunable receiver for fiber optic communication is highly desirable. 2, record 95, English, - optical%20frequency
