Usually, a ladder allows fish to swim past a barrier aided by river water flowing in from the top.... work is being done to create an artificial stream of water through the fish ladder. Starting with a series of large pumps supplying water or "attractant flow[, "] fish looking for an alternative route over the slide will be lured upstream into the pools. As fish swim further, they will end up in a holding pool at the same elevation as the fish pump. 1, record 8, French, - bassin%20de%20retenue

In route or drag pattern. Often today, an in route is called a drag pattern. This play requires the receiver to run a couple of steps downfield, then turn and run parallel to the line of scrimmage towards the center of the field. The drag pattern is used in the West Coast offense a lot, allowing receivers to catch the ball safely and then run after the catch. Speedy receivers who don’t mind running through linebacker territory also run in-routes. 3, record 9, English, - in%20pattern

The corporation's affiliation, central to the natural synergy of transportation and trade, was initiated in 1996 by way of an inter-provincial conference. Conference proceedings led to a 1997 federal transportation and trade potential. One of the study'stop recommendations was to implement a self-systaining organization to promote Canadian trade through this very capable route and from AsiaPacific markets. The study went on to say that greater awareness of the trade benefits for Canada by using both the north and south Western Canada Transportation Corridors must be undertaken as we enter the global millennium. At the proposal of Haiti and some African countries, the General Conference of UNESCO approved at its 27th Session in 1993 the implementation of the "Slave Route" Project(Resolution 27 C/3. 13). The idea of a "Route" expresses the dynamics of the movement of peoples, civilizations and cultures, while that of "slave" addresses not only the universal phenomenon of slavery, but also in a more precise and explicit way the transatlantic slave trade in the Atlantic, and slave trade in the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean. The project has three major objectives : to break the silence surrounding the slave trade and slavery through the historical study of the causes and dynamics of the transatlantic slave trade; the clarification of the consequences and interactions resulting from the slave trade; to contribute to the establishment of a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence between races and peoples. 1, record 15, English, - Slave%20Route

1, record 15, Spanish, - La%20Ruta%20del%20Esclavo

Tuberculosis(TB) remains to be one of the most common problems affecting patients in developing countries where poor sanitary conditions, overcrowding and malnutrition exist.... It can involve any organ of the body including that of the gastrointestinal tract.... There are several theories regarding the development of tuberculosis of the intestine. These are through ingestion of TB infected materials and direct invasion of intestinal mucosa. Another is through hematogenous route by blood to the liver and excreted to the bile with subsequent invasion of the mucosa or by the intestines from primary or secondary tuberculoma. 1, record 27, English, - intestinal%20tuberculosis

Caution : the Spanish term "recorrido" is generic. In its most basic meaning the term denotes the path of a moving object(=trajectory, flight), whether it be a racquet, a ball or even a human body(=route, course). In some contexts, it is obvious that "recorrido" refers to the «swing» of a racquet as it comes in contact with the ball. In other cases, other more precise English equivalents-backswing, upswing, downswing, follow through, route-are recommended. Furthermore, in English one speaks of the "flight" or "trajectory"(=ES : vuelo, trayectoria o recorrido; FR : trajectoire) of the ball, the "path"(=ES : trayectoria; FR : élan) of the(racquet) swing, and the "path" or "route"(=ES : recorrido) of a person. 3, record 28, English, - backswing

The Pan-American Highway is a network of roads nearly 48, 000 kilometres(29, 800 miles) in total length. Except for an 87 kilometre(54 mi) rainforest gap, called the Darién Gap, the road links the mainland nations of the Americas in a connected highway system. According to Guinness World Records, the Pan-American Highway is the world's longest "motorable road". However, because of the Darién Gap, it is not possible to cross between South America and Central America by traditional motor vehicle. The Pan-American Highway system is mostly complete and extends from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, in North America to the lower reaches of South America. Several highway termini are claimed to exist, including the cities of Puerto Montt and Quellón in Chile and Ushuaia in Argentina. No comprehensive route is officially defined in Canada and the United States, though several highways there are called "Pan-American". The Pan-American Highway passes through many diverse climates and ecological types, from dense jungles to cold mountain passes. Since the highway passes through many countries, it is far from uniform. Some stretches of the highway are passable only during the dry season, and in many regions driving is occasionally hazardous. 1, record 32, English, - Pan%2DAmerican%20Highway

1, record 32, Spanish, - Carretera%20Panamericana

The construction of the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline is one of the most promising projects carried out as part of the Maghreb-Europe partnership. This project is considered as a physical link between the Maghreb and Europe pending the fixed link between Tangiers and the Rock of Gibraltar. The Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline which was dedicated on November 8, 1996 will link the Hass R’mel field in Algeria with Cordoba, in Andalusia through Morocco. It will service in a first stage the Spanish, Portuguese and Moroccan markets, then the French and German ones with an expected increase by 2000. It will supply 1,500 million cubic meters of gas to Morocco. 3, record 49, English, - Maghreb%2DEurope%20gas%20pipeline

In 1996 the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline, a huge transnational energy infrastructure, entered into operation, configuring a new route for natural gas from the Algerian gas fields to the European markets. The pipeline, of around 1, 400 km in length and 48 inches in diameter, connects the Hassi R’Mel deposits to the Spanish gas pipeline network in Cordoba. The gas pipeline is 48 inches in diameter in its 530 km course through Algeria, 540 km through Morocco and the 45 km stretch through the Straits of Gibraltar in which there are two lines of 22 inches in diameter each. 4, record 49, English, - Maghreb%2DEurope%20gas%20pipeline

Recoton develops breakthrough technology which transmits stereo sound through walls, ceilings and floor up to 150 feet. In June 1989, the Federal Communications Commission allocated a band of frequencies stretching from 902 to 928 MHz for wireless, in-home product applications. Recoton, a leading wireless speaker manufacturer, took advantage of the FCC ruling by creating a new speaker system that utilizes this frequency band to transmit clearer, stronger stereo signals throughout your home. You will be able to listen to your stereo, TV, VCR or CD player in any room of your home without having to run miles of speaker wire. The powerful transmitter plugs into a headphone, audio-out or tape-out jack on your stereo or TV component transmitting music wirelessly to your speakers or headphones. One transmitter, unlimited viewers.(En Route, Air-Canada in-flight magazine, June 1994, p. 24). 2, record 69, English, - wireless%20speaker

1, record 75, French, - escalade%20apr%C3%A8s%20travail

Retention Trusts. In cases where holding companies have been established for estate planning purposes, right in such companies may be put into a trust for retention. In such circumstances, the trustee may not dispose of or otherwise affect the rights placed in trust. The Assistant Deputy Registrar General may serve as trustee of such trusts. In establishing such trusts, ministers may make arrangements to have third parties exercise their voting rights in relation to the shares in the holding company as long as such arrangements will not result in a conflict of interest. Ministers who have established such trusts cannot be consulted or informed of the disposition of any assets owned by the holding company that would be considered to be "controlled assets" under the terms of the guidelines applicable to ministers of the Crown. Retention trusts are a recent innovation, first permitted under the guidelines of April 1980 for ministers of the Crown. Because the retention trust requires the formation of a family holding company for estate planning purposes, it is not a vehicle which is suitable for many people.... The main advantage of the retention trust is that it is a useful divestment vehicle for ministers who have substantial assets and who have arrangements in place which require that the assets be held under proper management through a holding company. The disadvantage of such a trust is that it is a prohibitively expensive route to be followed by someone of modest means who would rather have had a frozen trust. 2, record 81, English, - retention%20trust
