As sound waves leave one medium and enter another, such as an air borne wave in a room reaching a brick wall, the wave will undergo certain characteristics. A portion of the wave will attempt to pass through the medium, while the balance of the wave will reflect back off the wall. Sound wave reflection occurs with that portion of the energy that stays contained to within the room. 1, record 1, English, - sound%20wave%20reflection

Once a diesel engine is running, the engine speed is monitored and controlled through a governor. The governor ensures that the engine speed stays high enough to idle at the right speed and that the engine speed will not rise too high when full power is demanded. The governor is a simple mechanical device which first appeared on steam engines.... The governor consists of a rotating shaft, which is driven by the diesel engine. A pair of flyweights are linked to the shaft and they rotate as it rotates. The centrifugal force caused by the rotation causes the weights to be thrown outwards as the speed of the shaft rises. If the speed falls the weights move inwards. The flyweights are linked to a collar fitted around the shaft by a pair of arms. As the weights move out, so the collar rises on the shaft. If the weights move inwards, the collar moves down the shaft. The movement of the collar is used to operate the fuel rack lever controlling the amount of fuel supplied to the engine by the injectors. 2, record 4, English, - governor

From the top of Big Baldy, a series of parallel chutes run through trees. They join with the NE facing slopes below the ridge at 7400 feet... Below 7400 feet, the track follows the canyon bottom. There are several small benches and terrain traps, but the overall angle stays at or below 30 degrees... Below 6200 feet, the track fans out on a shallow debris fan. A full-path slide will cover the floor of Providence Canyon. The avalanche triggered in the 3/12/97 incident ran the full length of the path. 2, record 5, English, - full%2Dpath%20avalanche

Several [internal cooling] systems have been developed that incorporate three basic approaches : liquified gas, super-cold air with water vapor, and air exchange methods.... The air-exchange system is a far simpler method. Here, after the parison has been expanded, plant air is allowed to circulate through the bottle and exhaust. Differential pressure inside the bottle is maintained at 80 psi(550 kPa) to ensure that the parison stays in contact with the mold cavity. Production rate improvements are modest; only 10-15% improvement can be expected. 1, record 6, English, - air%2Dexchange%20system
