In 2008, Congress required railroads install positive train control(PTC) on mainlines that transport any poisonous-inhalation-hazardous(PIH) materials and where regularly scheduled intercity passenger or commuter rail services are provided. PTC uses communication-based/processor-based train control technology that provides a system capable of reliably and functionally preventing train-to-train collisions, overspeed derailments, incursions into established work zone limits, and the movement of a train through a main line switch in the improper position. 2, record 3, English, - positive%20train%20control

Yet the commercial viability of farming in these areas has been increasingly dependent upon various headage payments which have led to environmental degradation through over-grazing. Under Agenda 2000, one headage payment(the Hill and Livestock Compensatory Amount or HLCA) is to be switched to an area basis. This represents a partial attempt to decouple support from production incentives and may reduce environmental damage. However, the response of farmers to this payment switch is uncertain, particularly given the continuance of various other headage payments. 2, record 7, English, - headage%20payment

Thermostatic air cleaner works this way : when a cold engine is started, a thermal vacuum switch in the air cleaner lets vacuum reach the air-door motor on the snorkel. This pulls the door up, blocking off cold outside air. Air enters through the preheated-air opening(...) As the engine warms up, thermal vacuum switch gradually reduces vacuum to the motor. The spring-loaded door overcomes the reduced vacuum and begins to close. 1, record 9, English, - thermostatic%20air%20cleaner

Gas-fired water heaters have a gas burner located below the tank, a thermostatic switch, a gas valve and a pilot light. The thermostat will open the gas valve when it senses the water temperature at the bottom of the tank has dropped below the present limit. Gas flows to the burner and is ignited by the pilot light, heating the tank from below. In addition, the hot exhaust gases are vented through a hollow core in the center of the tank to help heat the water. Displays and Control Module(DCM)... Along the top are switches for power, communications mode selection, caution and warning. There is also a switch that controls the water that is fed to the Liquid Cooling-and-Ventilation Garment. A digital display is used to monitor the various suit circuits. At the top left of this module is an emergency relief valve. If the primary life support system were to ever malfunction, the astronaut would still have access to the secondary oxygen pack. To activate this secondary oxygen pack, all the astronaut would have to do is open a purge valve by squeezing a set of pinchers. This valve releases air pressure on the chest plate-this is the same valve that is used at the end of EVA [Extravehicular Activity] to depressurize the suit. Also on the left, a step down from the purge valve, is the mechanical-suit pressure gauge. Along the right-hand side of the module, are two switches : the ventilation-fan switch and the push-to-talk switch. The ventilation-fan switch can activate and deactivate a fan which circulates air through the helmet and other parts of the suit. The push-to-talk switch is similar to one you would find on a CB [Citizen Band] radio. If the astronaut wants to talk, he has to push the button to be heard, and if he wants to receive voice messages, he has to release the button. On the front of the panel are other controls for volume, temperature, and suit pressure. 2, record 32, English, - display%20and%20control%20module

An open circuit system is composed of magnetic detectors or contacts that are "normally closed. "That means that their contacts are separated when the door or window is in the normally closed position. When the door or window is opened, the contacts are released, causing them to close. This allows current to flow through the wires, and the alarm sounds. All the contacts and detectors are wired in parallel. The purpose of this switch is to avoid overflowing the laundry tub when the automatic washer is discharging its water. The switch is installed on the drain line between the laundry tub and laundry pump. Head pressure from the laundry tub activates the switch. Simultaneously a flow of water forming a loop from the pressure side of the pump through the switch bowl and returning to the pump intake keeps the switch contacts closed.(Pump runs continuously). When the laundry tub is completely empty the pump suction line takes in air. This pocket of air travels through the pump and through the return pressure loop. When the air enters the switch bowl, the pressure gives way to the pump suction side, thus pulling the switch contacts open(pump shuts off). 1, record 47, English, - laundry%20pump%20switch

Frequently, fluid clutches are used to drive equipment. In these instances, the sheaves mounted on a coupling can drive a zero speed switch indicator through a V-belt drive. This would warn the operator if the machine speed should fall below a given point. 1, record 59, English, - zero%20speed%20switch%20indicator

1, record 59, French, - voyant%20d%27avertissement%20de%20bas%20r%C3%A9gime

The transmitter loop is a large rectangle, several thousand feet to the side. A long wire might also be used. The detector consists of two mutually perpendicular loops, one horizontal and one vertical, connected effectively in opposition through a transformer to amplifier and headphones. The vertical coil, with a fixed number of turns, is shunted by a capacitance to give parallel resonance at the source frequency and is connected through a reversing switch to the transformer primary. The horizontal coil has multiple taps for a variable inductance. The coils are about two feet in diameter and are mounted on a vertical post. 1, record 61, English, - Bieler%2DWatson%20method

1, record 61, French, - m%C3%A9thode%20Bieler%2DWatson
