A game developed in Scotland in which two teams of four players each throw granite rocks spinning over a stretch of ice 138 feet long and 14 feet 2 inches wide(Can.) to 15 feet 6 inches wide towards a three-ringed target in an attempt to place a rock as close as possible to the center of the rings marked by a spot called the button.

A team scores one point for each stone it places nearer the center of the rings than its opponent. After all players on both teams have delivered their stones to one end of the rink (an "end"), the stones are scored and then delivered to the opposite end. ... A sound curling delivery requires accomplishment in four technical areas. Alignment, Timing, Balance, and Release. The delivery must be straight, the movements properly coordinated, the body in balance, and the release controlled and consistent. As each skill improves, so does accuracy. In addition to the technical aspects, a sound curling delivery requires a delicate "feel" for weight, and sound mental skills.
