A game developed in Scotland in which two teams of four players each throw granite rocks spinning over a stretch of ice 138 feet long and 14 feet 2 inches wide(Can.) to 15 feet 6 inches wide towards a three-ringed target in an attempt to place a rock as close as possible to the center of the rings marked by a spot called the button.

OBS

A team scores one point for each stone it places nearer the center of the rings than its opponent. After all players on both teams have delivered their stones to one end of the rink (an "end"), the stones are scored and then delivered to the opposite end. ... Though a match may be played to a stipulated number of points, most are played for a designated number of ends (as 14, 17, or 21).

OBS

Curling was a demonstration sport at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games in Calgary, Canada; it became an official Olympic sport at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.

Assez curieusement, les dictionnaires définissent le curling comme un sport où l'on joue avec un «palet» tandis que les ouvrages sur la discipline utilisent le terme «pierre», comme il se doit.

Le curling a été un sport de démonstration aux Jeux Olympiques d'hiver de 1988 à Calgary (Canada); il est devenu discipline olympique officielle aux Jeux Olympiques d'hiver de 1998 à Nagano (Japon).

Le Comité International Olympique (CIO) demande de respecter le nom des Jeux Olympiques tel qu'établi dans la Charte olympique, soit d'utiliser la majuscule «O». Par contre, les règles d'écriture de la langue française recommandent d'utiliser «Jeux olympiques», graphie préconisée par Sport Canada.

Disc golf relies on one’s ability to throw a disc with power and accuracy. The object of the game is to traverse a course from beginning to end in the fewest total number of throws of a golf disc. Similar to the traditional golf game, a course is composed of a number of holes, in which each player begins by throwing from the tee, and completes the hole by landing in or striking the target.

The hole can be one of a number of disc golf targets; the most common is called a pole hole, an elevated metal basket. As a player progresses down the fairway, he or she must make each consecutive shot from the spot [lie] where the previous throw has landed.

OBS

Frisbee®: a registered trademark. Although "frisbee" is frequently used to describe flying discs in general, its use, and the use of "frisbee golf," according to the sources consulted, should be avoided, except when one refers specifically to flying discs made by WHAM-O Inc.

The act, action or manner of putting a curling rock in motion by an appropriate swing and the necessary momentum, weight and turn to position it on the play, or move or put out of play other rocks already lying on the sheet.

A sound curling delivery requires accomplishment in four technical areas. Alignment, Timing, Balance, and Release. The delivery must be straight, the movements properly coordinated, the body in balance, and the release controlled and consistent. As each skill improves, so does accuracy. In addition to the technical aspects, a sound curling delivery requires a delicate "feel" for weight, and sound mental skills.

OBS

The technical term is "delivery" : it bears all the efficiency needed to position a rock on the intended target. The word "shot" is a more common term while "throw" and "stroke" express more force and vigour, or the action of a rock against another, than the conjugated strength and precision needed to place a rock on the targeted spot.
