THRUST BRAKING [3 records]

Record 1 2008-04-03

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aircraft Systems
  • Landing Gear (Aeroindustry)
CONT

A less dramatic use for thrust reversers is the powerback, a maneuver in which an aircraft is backed up under its own power. As a matter of procedure, pilots are cautioned not to apply brakes while powering back, as this may cause the aircraft to settle on its tail. Stops are made instead by first applying forward thrust and then braking normally once forward motion begins.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Circuits des aéronefs
  • Atterrisseur (Constructions aéronautiques)
OBS

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aircraft Maneuvers
  • Aircraft Piloting and Navigation
CONT

The recommended landing distances in the CRFI [Canadian Runway Friction Index] table are based on standard pilot techniques for minimum distance landings from 50 feet, including an approach from a 3° glideslope, a firm touchdown, minimum delay to nose lowering, minimum delay time to deployment of ground lift dump devices, minimum delay time to application of brakes and reverse thrust, and sustained maximum antiskid braking until stopped.

Domaine(s)
  • Manœuvres d'aéronefs
  • Pilotage et navigation aérienne
CONT
