Ariane-5(Expendable Rocket) is part of the European Union's Space Program. At present, the Ariane 5 functions as a Commercial Satellite Launcher and will be used to launch the ATV Cargo/Supply Spacecraft to the International Space station(ISS) in the future. Ariane-5 is the successor to Ariane 4.... The Main Cryogenic Stage is the core of the Ariane 5 launcher. It is 30 meters high and utilizes the Vulcain Rocket Engine. The propellants are liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. Two Solid Rocket Boosters are around 30 metres high. The two solid boosters deliver more than 90 percent of the total launcher's thrust at the start of flight. Upper Stage is used to propel the payload to its final orbit. The upper stage uses storable propellants. Ariane-5 is developing new upper stages, along with modifications to the main cryogenic stage and solid boosters, that will increase performance and meet demands of space commercial launch market. 2, record 3, English, - Ariane%205

When not in use, the reversers are held in the locked position by 13th stage air and a mechanical lock. Each engine throttle has an additional handle which is used to actuate the thrust reversers. The reverse thrust lever pivots about a point near to the top of the throttle. If reverse trust is required, the throttle must be retarded to closed and then the reverse thrust lever must be pulled up. A turbofan is a type of aircraft engine consisting of a ducted fan which is powered by a gas turbine. Part of the airstream from the ducted fan passes through the gas turbine core, providing oxygen to burn fuel to create power. However, most of the air flow bypasses the engine core, and is accelerated by the fan blades in much the same manner as a propeller. The combination of thrust produced from the fan and the exhaust from the core is a more efficient process than other jet engine designs, resulting in a comparatively low specific fuel consumption. 5, record 23, English, - bypass%20engine

At its core the engine has a twin annular pre-mixing swirler(TAPS) combustor that pre-mixes the air and fuel before they are burned. This is designed to allow the combustion process to be more complete at lower temperatures.... The heart of the combustor is a pair of annular fuel/air "swirls" that pre-mix the two before funnelling the mixture to the relatively conventional combustor. The inner swirler is used for low-thrust requirements in idle and taxiing, while the outer swirler engages for higher thrust settings. 2, record 24, English, - twin%20annular%20pre%2Dmixing%20swirler

Each of the four thrusters used for attitude control produce a thrust of 0. 1 kilogram of force. Four 2. 3-kilogram-force thrusters were used for turning the spacecraft. 3, record 36, French, - tuy%C3%A8re%20orientable

Systems Analysis of a Future Semi-Reusable Launcher, Based on a High Thrust Bleed Cycle Rocket Engine. In this paper a high thrust, cryogenic bleed cycle engine, to be used for propulsion of future reusable booster stages(liquid fly back boosters), of an expendable heavy lift launcher, is analyzed. The system configuration remains unchanged, in terms of total available fuel and the number of engines, hereas the variation of the engine parameters result in a change of total system mass and payload capacity. Different arrangements of bleed cycles are being analyzed, and compared with each other. The paper describes a simplified heat transfer model, used in the analysis of the suggested cycles. The thrust chamber design is discussed and a preliminary design of the booster vehicle, including a trajectory analysis, is presented. 3, record 41, English, - semi%2Dreusable%20launcher

A ramjet engine is a mechanically simple aerospace engine that creates thrust by burning fuel similarly to a normal jet-aircraft engine. The big difference between a jet engine and a ramjet is that a jet-turbine uses fans to compress air to optimize combustion, and a ramjet creates air-compression by the forward motion of air through a partially-restricted intake system. Ramjets have no moving parts, which is a big advantage in comparison to the delicate turbine blades in a normal jet-engine, however ramjet engines typically are not very efficient below speeds of Mach 2. 3, record 43, English, - hypersonic%20ramjet

A rocket engine is a device in which propellants are burned in a combustion chamber and the resulting high pressure gases are expanded through a specially shaped nozzle to produce thrust. The function of the nozzle is to convert the chemical-thermal energy generated in the combustion chamber into kinetic energy. The nozzle converts the slow moving, high pressure, high temperature gas in the combustion chamber into high velocity gas of lower pressure and temperature. Gas velocities from 2 to 4. 5 kilometers per second can be obtained in rocket nozzles. The nozzles which perform this feat are called DeLaval nozzles(after the inventor) and consist of a convergent and divergent section. The minimum flow area between the convergent and divergent section is called the nozzle throat. The flow area at the end of the divergent section is called the nozzle exit area. 6, record 45, English, - divergent%20exit%20cone

Two theories are recognized on the operation of a propeller in converting engine shaft torque to thrust. The momentum theory deals with the energy exchange to the air mass acted upon by the propeller. The other and most commonly used concept in determining propeller performance is the blade element theory. In this theory(known as the Drzewiecki theory), each propeller blade is considered as being composed of an infinite number of airfoils(called blade elements) joined end to end, forming a shape similar to a twisted airplane wing. 3, record 75, English, - blade%2Delement%20theory

Directional control is the guidance mode used during missile boost engine operation. It is a gyroscope-controlled method of keeping the missile on its aimed course. During this phase, the missile attitude is maintained by a thrust vector control(TVC) system, which consists of four simple on-off valves spaced at 90 degree intervals around the nozzle of the booster thrust chamber. 1, record 78, English, - directional%20control

1, record 78, French, - contr%C3%B4le%20de%20direction

Thrust augmentation system developed by de Havilland Aircraft of Canada to increase vertical lift characteristics of proposed supersonic short takeoff and vertical landing fighter aircraft. Basically, an ejector mixes a secondary flow of air with the primary flow from a turbofan engine within an encasing shroud. This has the effect of increasing the thrust by 50 to 100 percent. Augmented primary thrust is ejected through a nozzle. When the ejector is within or part of the fuselage, it is referred to as a fuselage ejector, or fuselage ejector lift. 1, record 81, English, - ejector%20lift%2Fvectored%20thrust
