TMJ [4 records]

Record 1 2006-11-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Orthodontics
CONT

The Gelb appliance is made in the lower jaw, covering only the premolar and molar teeth. It is used to correct mandibular displacement, reduce TMJ [temporomandibular joint] dysfunction and oral/facial pain, and to provide occlusal stability with the patient's natural dentition serving as the anterior guidance.

OBS

The appliance is named after Dr. Harold Gelb, the orthodontist who introduced it.

OBS

MORA appliance: The word "appliance" in this term is redundant, since the "A" in the acronym "MORA" stands for "appliance."

OBS

Some authors consider the term "mandibular orthopedic repositioning appliance" to be a synonym of "Gelb splint", while others think the MORA is a type of Gelb splint.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Orthodontie
OBS

Record 3 1994-02-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Orthopedic Surgery
CONT

The purpose of this study was to compare the function, and metabolic cost of ambulation in children with spina bifida who did and did not have surgery for hip dislocation... In conclusion, surgical patients had no improvement in function, decreased motion, greater length discrepancy but a more efficient gait. The benefit of surgical relocation for children with lower level spina bifida and dislocated hips is marginal.

CONT

Because this beneficial arthroscopic intervention did not encompass repositioning the disc, its surgical relocation when attempting to overcome dysfunction and pain in the TMJ((temporomandibular joint)) is questioned.(In Journal of oral and maxillofacial surgery, 1990, 48(8) 798-801, cited in PASCAL data bank.)

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chirurgie orthopédique
OBS
