The newsboy cap... was first worn in the late 1800s and early 1900s by newspaper sellers. It's similar to a flat cap in that both are typically constructed from tweed and have a rounded, low profile and a small visor or brim. The largest distinction is that newsboy caps are puffier and baggier than a standard flat cap. Newsboy caps are sewn together with 8 panels on top that look like pizza slices and almost always have a button on top where the panels meet. 3, record 3, English, - newsboy%20cap

A built-up roofing consists of plies or layers of roofing felt bonded together on site with hot bitumen. A protective surface coating of gravel or slag is sometimes embedded in a heavy top coating of hot bitumen. It is laid down to conform to the roof deck, and to protect all angles formed by the roof deck with projecting surfaces, and forms a single-unit flexible waterproofed membrane fastened to the deck by cementing and nailing. The simple principle on flat roofs is to turn the membrane up to form a skirting or base flashing on the vertical surfaces, making a large watertight tray. The only outlets from this tray are the roof drains to dispose of water. 3, record 18, English, - build%2Dup%20roofing

Metal coping is often used to cover the top of a parapet wall in lieu of masonry copings. If your composition flashing system is the full height of the parapet wall, extend this flashing over the top to the outside edge of the parapet. 2, record 29, French, - chaperon%20de%20m%C3%A9tal

His experiments led to the development of the cambered aerofoil, a feature that generated much more lift than a flat surface. Put simply, a curved wing surface causes the air traveling over the upper surface to move faster, and travel further, than the air passing along the lower surface of the wing. The air passing over the top surface has a slightly reduced pressure. The greater pressure below the wing exerts an upwards force, called lift, and within certain limits increases with airspeed. 1, record 49, English, - cambered%20aerofoil

With time, further improvements were made to milling equipment. Gyroscopic principles. Any spinning object possesses gyroscopic characteristics. The central mechanism of the gyroscope is a wheel similar to a bicycle wheel. It’s outer rim has a heavy mass. It rotates at high speed on very low friction bearings. When it is rotating normally, it resists changes in direction. The gyroscope exhibits two predominant characteristics. Rigidity in space. Precession. 2, record 57, English, - gyroscopic%20principle

Hands-on experience with gyroscopes is a good way to help children understand rotational motion. Have students experiment with spinning tops on a large, hard, flat surface such as the gymnasium floor. The students should set the tops spinning and make observations about what happens when they push the spinning tops in certain directions. They can try applying force to the gyroscopes at different heights from the ground to see how this affects the movement of a spinning top. All this can be related to gyroscopic principles(such as precession and gyroscopic inertia), as well as applications of these principles(satellites, bicycles, etc.) in real life. 3, record 57, English, - gyroscopic%20principle

Surface application is one of the approved methods for application of liquid fumigants. Surface application is effective for treating top infestations such as grain moths or secondary beetles in flat storages. Flat storages and annexes can be treated only by surface applications, applying the liquid fumigants under pressure. A power sprayer with a 12 ro 25 millimetre diameter hose and a fine spray nozzle is used to control surface infestations of moths. 1, record 58, English, - surface%20application

They were built with 5. 1 by 15. 2 centimetre wooden planks and 5. 1 by 10. 2 centimetre wooden planks. The 2 x 6's were placed flat side up, one on top of each other and securely nailed with spikes to give strength. Record number: 82, Textual support number: 1 CONT
When the bag-in-box concept is applied to dry products, it generally involves a bag inside a folding carton.... The evolutionary process eventually culminated in two basic methods of producing lined cartons. The first was a machine to automatically open a magazine-fed side-seamed carton and elevate it around vertically indexed mandrels where glue is applied to the bottom flaps and folded up against the end of the mandrel with great pressure.... [A]... lining machine... plunges a precut waxed-paper sheet into it by a system of reciprocating vertical mandrels.... The second method involves the use of a double package maker(DPM) which combines the carton forming/gluing operation with a lining feed mechanism which wraps the lining paper around a solid mandrel prior to the carton feed station. In this instance the carton blank is flat and side-seamed on the DPM. The lined carton is then discharged upright onto a conveyor leading to the filler and top closing machine. 1, record 82, English, - double%20package%20maker

An enclosed finishing vat for cheesemaking(Cheddar, Colby or stirred-curd types) has a generally flat bottom with longitudinal trough for whey drainage; an oval side wall and a dome-shaped top which overlaps the sides. A reciprocating agitator unit mounted above the vat is fitted with both stirring and unloading paddles. Curd and whey are passed into the vat through an inlet in the top and whey drains into a tank situated at the lower end of the vat, with a screen to prevent curd from entering the tank. A curd discharge outlet with movable door is situated in the bottom wall of the tank, directly above a curd hopper fitted with a conveyor for moving curd to a collection area. As the vat is totally enclosed, contamination of the curd is virtually eliminated, evaporation heating of the vat is not required...(US Patent, 1982, no. 4, 308791 : information obtained through the FSTA data base). 2, record 90, English, - finishing%20vat
