The tapered beam, sometimes called a wedge beam, is similar to a conventional built-up plate girder, with two important differences. One, as the name suggests, is the tapered profile of the rafter. The second difference has to do with the manner in which the tapered beam is connected to the column... In the most common version, the top surface of the beam is tapered, and the bottom is horizontal … The tapered beam is typically connected to the column by bolted end plates. 3, record 2, English, - tapered%20beam

The most common type of steel expansion bearings … or shoes used by INDOT [Indiana Department of Transportation] consist of three major parts : a top shoe, an expansion roller, and an expansion plate. The top shoe, sometimes called a sole plate, connects the expansion roller to the beam or girder. The expansion roller is curved at the top and bottom to accommodate longitudinal movement through a rocking motion. The expansion shoe, sometimes referred to as a masonry plate, connects the expansion roller to the bridge seat or to a recessed anchor plate. 3, record 3, English, - expansion%20roller

The... stevedoring crane... is generally of nonswing-boom construction... The load is usually carried on the traction wheels and the steering is at the rear, so that the transportation of a load does not adversely affect the traction or the steering of the vehicle. The large driving wheels in front are suited to carry the concentration of tractor and working load, thus providing a maximum of tractive effort for traveling, light or loaded. This type of crane is generally of 5-ton capacity and has a boom, hinged on top of the frame, providing the maximum of reach with a minimum of required headroom. The boom is generally of balanced cantilever girder design, power-operated, and can be raised and lowered by power from the driver's seat. It can also be adjusted-without a load on the hook-to any of a number of positions of reach and height of hook, depending on the character of the load and the overhead conditions in the operating area. 1, record 4, English, - stevedoring%20crane
