CONT

Related to the lute, the mandolin is a small stringed instrument constructed of wood. Its eight wire strings are tuned in pairs to the same notes as those of a violin. The distinctive tremolo sound of the mandolin is created by quick movements of the plectrum(pick) across the four courses, or pairs, of strings. Although the 18th-century instrument was built in several varieties in different Italian towns, the mandolins built in Naples eventually became the representative type now known as the Neapolitan mandolin. The ribbed, pear-shaped body of the Neapolitan mandolin is attached to a neck containing a fingerboard, usually with 17 frets. The strings are hitched to the bottom of the instrument's body, then pass over a bridge and are tuned at the top of the neck.

CONT

The mandolin appears to have descended from the medieval gittern in Italy, where it took two forms. One was the Milanese or Lombardian mandolin ... with six double courses of strings tuned in thirds and fourths. The other was the Neapolitan mandolin ... with four double courses tuned in fifths as in the modern mandolin.

The top notes(aka [also known as] opening notes, head notes) of a fragrance are those you first smell when you spray on a perfume These are the fragrances that give you the first impressions of the perfume... These notes are often the lightest of all notes and therefore fade away reasonably quickly... Although the top notes fade quickly as they are mostly designed to lure a customer in on their first smell, it is also important that the top notes easily blend into the heart notes for a smooth transition as the body of the perfume starts to appear.

Let's start... with the basics by explaining the perfume pyramid … Imagine a pyramid. At the top of the pyramid, we find the top notes. [The] top notes evaporate to make way for the next part of the pyramid-the heart notes. Just as the name reveals, they make up the body and character of the perfume. They make a smooth transition from the perfume's top notes to the base notes. The base notes are a great part of the perfume's heart, but they also make the perfume long-lasting.

Another deterrent introduced on $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills in the 1990 series, is the insertion of so-called security threads, metallic polyester strips inscribed with USA and the denomination of the bill. Invisible to the casual viewer, the threads, which run across the bills from top to bottom, can be discerned only when the bill is held up to a light. Forty-five percent of the $100 and $50 bills legally printed after 1990 have security threads, and $5 notes will begin to get them this year.
