Tokamak... is an acronym created from the Russian words, "TOroidalnaya KAmera ee MAgnitnaya Katushka, "or "Toroidal Chamber and Magnetic Coil, "and denotes a class of systems for the toroidal magnetic confinement of thermonuclear fusion plasmas. Originally designed by Andrei Sakharov(1921-1989) and developed in the USSR, the tokamak began setting performance records for magnetic confinement fusion systems in the late 1960s and remains the leading concept for magnetic confinement fusion today. The tokamak configuration is perhaps most easily visualized by considering a cylindrical vacuum tube(typically of D or O-shaped cross section) which has been bent around a symmetry axis into a torus. 1, record 12, English, - tokamak%20configuration

2, record 15, French, - r%C3%A9gion%20%C3%A0%20raies%20larges

A more advanced type of gyro is the optical gyroscope. These devices are based on two counter-rotating beams of light travelling in a ring-like structure. The interaction of the two light beams produces a standing wave pattern. If the ring is then rotated about its centre axis(think of a torus spinning around its core), one of the beams has to travel a slightly longer distance, and the other a slightly shorter distance to get back to where they started. This will cause a shift in the pattern of the standing wave, and this can be measured to determine the rate of rotation. 3, record 18, English, - optical%20gyro

Most people would remember the classic rotating disc gyroscope, which belongs to the mechanical group. One of today’s high precision gyros is still the mechanical, rotating gyro; however it is dependent on linear accelerations because of its mechanical measuring principle. The optical group comprises the fibre optic- and laser types. These use the Sagnac Effect (named after its French discoverer), which, when the sensor is turned, results in a difference in transit time between two light waves passing through the same optical path but in opposite directions. Optical gyros therefore do not depend on acceleration as gyros in the mechanical group. This is one of their biggest advantages ... 4, record 18, English, - optical%20gyro

2, record 18, French, - gyroscope%20optique

A configuration with a toroidal magnetic field and n rings, carrying parallel toroidal currents and placed inside the torus where they are either fixed on supports or levitated. These rings create a multipolar field(quadrupolar if n=2, octopolar if n=4) which, superimposed on the initial confining magnetic field produces a minimum-average-B configuration. 1, record 25, English, - multipole%20configuration

Impulse accelerators. Primarily for use in research on thermonuclear fusion of hydrogen isotopes, several high-intensity electron accelerators have been constructed. One type resembles a string of beads in which each bead is a torus of laminated iron and the string is the vacuum tube.... These accelerators produce beams with energies between 1 and 9 MeV.... The pulses are very brief, lasting about 50 nanoseconds. 2, record 26, English, - impulse%20accelerator
