Tram-trains are a hybrid of trams and trains which are able to run on existing rail lines as well as on the street, sharing the route with other road traffic and allowing travel between, around and directly into the heart of towns and cities. The vehicles are typically powered by overhead electric cables and, less frequently, by diesel. 2, record 1, English, - tram%2Dtrain

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
3, record 1, French, - tram%2Dtrain

Other measures, such as the planned increase in park-and-ride sites, and building of multi-storey car parks on the inner ring road and of a tangential road link to take traffic away from the old town [Bologna], would necessitate larger investments that the city cannot currently afford. This example also shows how targeted EU support measures to improve local public transport(buses and trams) and bicycle and pedestrian traffic can substantially improve the environmental situation in cities and towns. 1, record 8, English, - tangential%20road
