The temperature trend is the average rate of increase or decrease at the grid point over the time period of interest. It is determined by simple linear regression through the data available for each grid point. They are expressed in degrees Celsius per decade.

Direct-reading ferrography magnetically separates wear particles and optically measures the quantity of large and small particles present in the oil sample. Using results from direct-reading ferrography that indicate the rate, intensity and severity of wear..., machine wear baselines can be established and trends in wear conditions can be monitored. As evidence of its success in dose optimization, McMaster University noted the continuing decline in iodine production doses despite a constant production rate. Referring to that example, the Commission asked McMaster University to elaborate on what measures it had specifically taken to reverse the upward trend in iodine production doses. In response, McMaster University indicated that it had evaluated and improved shielding in the production system, improved techniques for minimizing impurities, adjusted administrative procedures, and added training in radiation surveying and worker self-monitoring.
