Socioeconomic drought is what happens when physical water shortage starts to affect people, individually and collectively. Or, in more abstract terms, most socioeconomic definitions of drought associate it with the supply and demand of an economic good. One could argue that a physical water shortage with no socioeconomic impacts is a policy success. 2, record 1, English, - socio%2Deconomic%20drought

Socio-economic Drought Perspective. Not all water shortages are manifest in ways that impact people. A socio-economic perspective does not recognize drought until it tangibly effects peoples’ lives in terms of their behavior and options(e. g., water rationing, increased prices, or lost recreational opportunities) or depressed earning power(in particular reduced agricultural income which may trickle down and adversely affect through other industries, thus increasing regional financial stress). 1, record 1, English, - socio%2Deconomic%20drought

"High tunnels can be used ... for gourmet or specialty crops, or for organic farming. You even can put small fruit trees such as figs inside the structures." Explained simply, high tunnels are single-car garage-size structures covered with clear plastic sheeting to manipulate soil and air temperatures using the energy of the sun. ... a series of growth trials [will be conducted] in 24 research high tunnels, which are 36 feet long, 17 feet wide and 9 feet high. ... Commercial-size versions of high tunnels, which are 96 feet long, also protect plants from insects, diseases and wind damage, virtually eliminating field loss ... 4, record 2, English, - high%20tunnel

High tunnels are not conventional greenhouses. But like plastic-covered greenhouses, they are generally quonset-shaped, constructed of metal bows that are attached to metal posts which have been driven into the ground about two feet deep. They are covered with one layer of 6-mil greenhouse-grade polyethylene, and are ventilated by manually rolling up the sides each morning and rolling them down in early evening. There is no permanent heating system although it is advisable to have a standby portable propane unit to protect against unexpected below-freezing temperatures. There are no electrical connections. The only external connection is a water supply for trickle irrigation. The ends of the tunnels are framed in, and may be made portable(removable) to facilitate easy access into the tunnel with a small tractor and tiller. 5, record 2, English, - high%20tunnel

Even the smallest rabbittry benefits from an automatic or semi-automatic system. The simplest watering system is semi-automatic. You fill a holding tank(perhaps just a large bucket) elevated above the hutches, and the water flows down through pipes alongside the cages. Valves are inserted into the pipe at each cage. The rabbits bite on the valves to release the water. There are two types of valves. The "dewdrop" valve has a metal stem in it which is dislodged when bit or licked. This allows the water to trickle through. After a rabbit has stopped drinking, the stem drops back into the valve opening and is held in place by the water pressure. 1, record 5, English, - dewdrop%20valve
