In the case of combat aircraft, designed-in lack of stability can offer faster turn rates, tighter turn radii and reductions in fuel consumption during manoeuvring flight, plus the ability to fly in unconventional attitudes(such as extreme angles of attack) or perform unconventional manoeuvres. The reduction in the energy required to perform manoeuvres comes largely from the decrease in trim drag involved in initiating the manoeuvre : the movement of flight control surfaces required to alter the aircraft's attitude is much less than is needed with a positively stable aircraft, and the actual control surfaces themselves can be made smaller. 1, record 6, English, - trim%20drag

A balance tab is similar in function to the control tab in that it is designed to assist the pilot in moving the control surface.... As the control surface begins to move in a certain direction, the balance tab moves in the opposite direction. This produces an aerodynamic force to help move the control surface. In some designs, the balance tab is combined in function so that it can be actuated in flight. In these cases it also serves as a controllable trim tab. 5, record 10, English, - balance%20tab

4, record 23, French, - compensateur%20de%20Mach

A fixed trim tab is one that can be adjusted on the ground but cannot be adjusted in flight. This type of tab is usually a sheet-metal plate attached to the rear of the control surface and extending to the rear of the trailing edge. If the pilot reports that the airplane will not fly straight and level at cruising speed, the appropriate tab is adjusted on the ground by bending a rudder tab to the right or left, and bending the aileron and elevator tabs up or down, depending upon the correction required. 2, record 24, English, - fixed%20trim%20tab

The somatosensory system consists of numerous pressure receptors contained within the muscles, tendons, joints, and skin. This system reacts to the sensations resulting from pressures or stretch on joints, muscles and skin and also from slight changes in the position of internal organs. These are the forces that act on the seated pilot in flight. It is closely associated with the vestibular system and to a lesser degree, the visual system. They allow the pilot to sense certain complex motions and forces of flight such as aircraft feel(buffet, control forces, rudder, trim force) and "G" forces. 2, record 30, English, - seat%2Dof%2Dthe%2Dpants%20flying

Speed-attitude correction is provided by the Mach trim compensation system. Mach trim compensation automatically provides forces to the control column(elevator) to compensate for nosedown pitching moments of the airplane at high Mach number. Control column position is effected by the Mach trim actuator installed at the lower part of the first officer's control column control mechanism. The actuator receives command signals from the stability augmentation computer. Mach number is computed from pitot and static air pressure input changes to the air data computer(ADC-1). The air data computer shapes the information and transmits it to the stability augmentation computer where it is further shaped and then transmitted to the actuator to command control column and elevator movement. 1, record 38, English, - Mach%20trim%20servo%20actuator

A drum on the opposite end of the shaft is connected by a two-way cable system to a drum on a shaft located in the right wheel well. Another drum at the base of the same shaft is connected by a second cable system routed along the rear spar of each wing to the trim tab actuators. The electrical flying control system is based on two independent systems, the Elevator Aileron Computers(ELAC) and the Spoiler Elevator Computers(SEC). The Spoiler Elevator Computer System... consists of a trio of computers, which will produce commands in the roll axis by operating the two outer spoiler panels on each wing; speed-braking in flight by operating the three inner spoiler panels; lift-dumping after landing by raising all ten spoiler panels; stand-by pitch axis control in support of the ELAC by operating the elevators and automatic trim, also as a stand-by to the ELAC, by adjusting tailplane incidence. 1, record 41, English, - spoiler%20elevator%20computer
