Record 2 2014-07-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Semiconductors (Electronics)
CONT

The triode AC semiconductor switch or triac is a bilateral-controlled switch and can thus be used to control power in AC circuits.

OBS

bidirectional triode thyristor; triac : terms officially approved by the Lexicon Project Committee(New Brunswick) in 1990.

Key term(s)
  • bi-lateral triode thyristor

French

Domaine(s)
  • Semi-conducteurs (Électronique)
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Vacuum Tubes (Electronics)
DEF

A four-electrode electron tube containing an anode, a cathode, a control electrode, and one additional electrode that is ordinarily a grid.

CONT

Tetrodes. This construction is similar to the triode, with cathode, control grid, and plate, but there is an additional electrode called the screen grid between the control grid and the plate.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Tubes et lampes (Électronique)
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Paleontology
DEF

Tetraxon with one ray different from three other similar rays.

CONT

The rudimentary and initial structure common to most ebridian taxa, is the triode(a flat tri-radial structure) or the triaene(a four-spoked, tetra-axial structure. These structures are interior elements of the ebridian skeleton and form a substructure from which other elements radiate.

OBS

tetraxon: A tetraxial sponge spicule.

Key term(s)
  • triæne

French

Domaine(s)
  • Paléontologie
DEF

Spicule siliceux initial tétraxone du squelette ébriédien.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
CONT

Lovelock developed a small detector intended for use with open tubular columns, and a new triode detector having a sensitivity 1000 times greater than his original detector... The triode detector... incorporates a ring electrode, in addition to the normal anode and cathode electrodes, which separates the background current(positive ions liberated by vapor/metastable argon reactions or collisions) of the primary electron stream from the signal current. Basically, both detectors are similar to the simple device in design : their brass or stainless steel chambers function as cathodes; their anodes of the same material are supported coaxially within the chamber by a polytetrafluoroethylene insulator; both contain ports for introduction and escape of the chromatographic column gas effluent from the detectors; and each have a suitable source of alpha or beta radiation.
