The closet auger is a cane-shaped tube with a coiled spring "snake" inside. Its handle rotates the coiled hook on the end of the snake. To put the closet auger into the trap of the water closet bowl, first draw the coiled spring all the way up into the cane-like curve of the closet auger. Hook the cane end, with its projecting hook, into the trap.... Begin turning the handle to rotate the coiled spring as it is pushed down into the trap of the water closet bowl. Continue to rotate the handle until the snake reaches the obstruction. Turn the handle slowly until the obstruction is caught on the coiled hook of the closet auger. Continue to rotate the handle and pull back at the same time to bring the obstruction up into the water closet bowl where it can be removed.

In Class 2 operation, hand-off is synchronous(the CFP transmits first in MUX2; there is no MUX 3). The channel to hand-off to may be negotiated between CFP [cordless fixed parts] and CPP [cordless portable parts] prior to the hand-off via Candidate Channels and Channel Confirm message exchanges. If a synchronous hand-off fails, the CPP tries to re-establish using MUX3. The message used to invoke a class 2 hand-off has the ability to specify more than the 40 basic traffic channels, and when sent by a CFP, has the ability to turn down the CPP's transmit power.

The American Space Agency Nasa... is putting several million dollars into the project under its advanced concepts programme. At the heart of a space elevator would be a cable reaching up as far as 100, 000km from the surface of the Earth. The earthbound end would be tethered to a base station, probably somewhere in the middle of the Pacific ocean. The other end would be attached to an orbiting object in space acting as a counterweight, the momentum of which would keep the cable taut and allow vehicles to climb up and down it. A space elevator would make rockets redundant by granting cheaper access to space. At about a third of the way along the cable-36, 000 km from Earth-objects take a day to complete a full orbit. If the cable's centre of gravity remained at this height, the cable would remain vertical, as satellites placed at this height are geostationary, effectively hovering over the same spot on the ground. To build a space elevator such a geostationary satellite would be placed into orbit carrying the coiled-up cable. One weighted end of the cable would then be dropped back towards Earth, while the other would be unreeled off into space. Mechanical lifters could then climb up the cable from the ground, ferrying up satellites, space probes and eventually tourists. The biggest technical obstacle is finding a material strong but light enough to make the cable; this is where the carbon nanotubes come in. These are microscopically thin tubes of carbon that are as strong as diamonds but flexible enough to turn into fibre. In theory, a nanotube ribbon about one metre wide and as thin as paper could support a space elevator.

Le ratio actuel nanotube/résine epoxy est de 60/40. Il faudra réussir à descendre à 98/2. Les principaux risques liés au transport par ascenseur seront dus aux météorites, aux ouragans ou aux attaques terroristes. Le filin pourra être réparé in-situ. Ce système ne nécessiterait pas de maîtriser la fusion nucléaire. De simples batteries et panneaux solaires suffiront à alimenter l'ascenseur. La plupart des technologies nécessaires existent déjà ou existeront dans le court terme. Les prévisions actuelles prévoient un budget de 7 à 10 milliards sur 15 ans.

What you do is you sit on your board sideways facing your partner, while your partner does the same. You turn by having the person on the turning side lean back, like he's on the trapeze of a catamaran. The person on the nonturning [side] leans in to help out with the turn.

The thermopile heat of combustion detector is at the heart of each heating value transmitter. Air is used as a heat transfer media and flows around the combustion chamber. Any increase in the heat produced by the combustion of a controlled sample of process gas is immediately sensed and reported to the microprocessor. Air enters the combustion chamber on the outside cold junctions where its heat is measured, then flows down the outside of the thermopile towards the viewer to turn through 180° past the end of the thermopile assembly and then flows up through the heat exchanger... to mix with the heated flue gases from the burner.

modulating fire. Varying the firing rate as the load varies. This results in longer burner operation because the firing rate is lowered as temperature or pressure builds up toward the cutoff point. It decreases on-off operation and increases the efficiency of the system.

There are four widely used operating configurations for gas fired appliances : modulating fire, on-off, hi-low, and multi-stage firing. Modulating fire is accomplished by mechanically varying the size of the gas admittance opening of one or more special "modulating" gas valves. With the gas valve completely open the boiler fires at it's full fire rate. The unit is said to be at "full turndown" when it fires at it's lowest firing rate. The "turndown ratio" is the ratio of full fire rate to full turndown firing rate and is a function of boiler design. A turn down ratio of 5 : 1 would indicate that a boiler is capable of a full turndown firing rate of 20%(5 : 1(100% fire : 20% fire).

À ce moment, après avoir obtenu le consentement de présence de flamme par l'électrode d'ionisation, la boîte de contrôle met en marche le servomoteur air-gaz qui porte le brûleur, progressivement, dans un délai préétabli, à sa puissance maximale. Le brûleur reste en ces conditions de travail jusqu'à atteindre la température maximale, après cela, toujours thermostatiquement, à l'aide du servomoteur, on stabilise la puissance à un régime minimal, jusqu'à la demande de chaleur par la chaudière, qui peut être réétablie avec une modulation successive, sans pourtant interrompre complètement le fonctionnement.

Replacing a tap washer. Given that up to 50% of an electricity bill may be attributable to water heating, it is important to ensure that your hot water taps don’t drip... A leaky tap usually occurs because the internal seal is worn out. Each time you turn the tap off, the soft flexible washer, which is made from rubber or a synthetic substitute, presses against the metal washer seat, wearing a tiny part of itself away. Eventually it becomes thin and irregular in shape. This allows water to seep past and creates the annoying drip. If you don’t replace it but continue to screw the tap down tighter and tighter, eventually you will get metal forcing you to call in a plumber to regrid the washer seating. That can be an expensive business!

This device, when engaged, eliminates the backlash(play) between the nut and the table leadscrew permitting the operation of climb(down) milling... Two independent nuts are mounted on the lead screw. These nuts engage a common crown gear which in turn meshes with a rack. Axial movement of the rack is controlled by the backlash eliminator engaging knob located on the front of the saddle. By turning the knob "in", the nuts are forced to move along the leadscrew in opposite directions, removing all backlash.
