Record 1 2022-06-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aircraft Propulsion Systems
DEF

The rotation of an aircraft ... about its longitudinal axis.

CONT

A roll motion is an up and down movement of the wings of the aircraft ...

CONT

Roll axis : the airplane axis controlled by the ailerons. Roll is illustrated by holding the airplane by the nose and tail. Dropping either wingtip is the roll movement. This is used to bank or turn the airplane. Many aircraft are not equipped with ailerons and the roll and yaw motions are controlled by the rudder.

OBS

roll: designation and definition standardized by NATO.

OBS

rolling motion: designation officially approved by the Aeronautical Terminology Standardization Committee (ATSC) - Helicopters.

OBS

OBS

Subject field(s)
  • Types of Motor Vehicles and Bicycles
  • Motorcycles and Snowmobiles
DEF

[A] street-legal motorcycle that is designed for both on and off-road use.

CONT

... dual-sport motorcycles are basically dirtbikes with the necessary equipment to make them street legal. This usually involves components such as turn signals, head/tail lights, horns, mirrors, and EPA-compliant emissions equipment.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sortes de véhicules automobiles et de bicyclettes
  • Motos et motoneiges
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Mountain Sports
OBS

Use the bowline on a coil to tie yourself into the end of the rope... wrap the rope around your waist with a minimum of three wraps, working upwards... form a loop... turn the loop over the coil around your waist... weave the tail through the loop... tighten the loop...

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sports de montagne
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Roller Skating and Skateboarding
  • Skiing and Snowboarding
CONT

The range of manoeuvre is very wide. Perhaps the most basic is the "kick turn". This enables a rider to do a 90 degree turn on the spot. It can be done on either a stationary or a moving board. The back foot should be right at the tail of the board with the front foot about half way along. The weight of the body is transferred entirely to the rear foot and as the board rises the body is turned through 90 degrees in the desired direction.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Patin à roulettes et planche à roulettes
  • Ski et surf des neiges
DEF

OBS

kick turn : anglicisme au Canada.

  • Astrophysics and Cosmography
DEF

... name... given to the magnetic neutral point on the dayside, a demarcation dividing the magnetic field lines which turn equator-ward and close on the dayside from those which stream over the pole into the tail of the magnetosphere.

CONT

The transfer of solar wind particles into the magnetosphere is probably accomplished through the dayside cusps.

OBS

dayside cleft: term supplied by Dr. John MacLeod and Colleagues, Astronomy Section, National Research Council.

DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Seafood and Freshwater Food (Food Industries)
CONT

How to fillet a fish... Hold the fish on the cutting board with the back of the fish toward you. Using a thin flexible knife, cut through the back of the head to the backbone and turn the blade so it's running along the backbone. Hold the fish by placing your non cutting hand over the head. Push the knife along the backbone to the tail using a sawing motion. Pull the fillet away from the body of the fish while making small careful cuts with the knife to retain as much flesh as possible. Using small strokes of the knife, remove the fillet from the rib cage, feeling, your way around the bones with the knife.

CONT

Bien rincer.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Helicopters (Military)
CONT

The pilot's feet control two anti-torque pedals, which are used to turn the helicopter to the left or right. The pedals control the pitch of the tail rotor blades, increasing or decreasing the thrust produced by that rotor. The tail rotor provides the sideway thrust needed to counteract the torque produced by the main rotor.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Hélicoptères (Militaire)
CONT

CONT

The other component of the turn coordinator is the inclinometer, better known as the rudder ball. This is a black ball in a liquid-filled, curved and sealed tube. The ball is there to help keep your turns coordinated. That is, to prevent the airplane's tail from skidding to the outside of a turn or slipping to the inside. In a skid, the ball will roll opposite to the direction of the turn; In a [slip], the ball moves to the inside of the turn. To prevent slips or skids, pilots are told to "step on the ball, "meaning apply pressure to the rudder corresponding to the ball' s location. Ball left? Step on the left rudder until the ball centers.
