A group of production tanks located at a point in the field for the storage of crude oil.

The lease tank battery is the starting point for crude oil on its way to the refinery-via gathering line, pump station, and trunk line to the refinery tank farm. It is at the tank battery where the pipeline gauger measures and tests the oil, and after making out a run ticket... opens the tank valve, turning the oil into the pipeline system.

There is a great deal of confusion between "tank farm" and "tank battery." Two sources give them as synonyms while several others define the first as an area or site and the second as a collection or assembly of tanks, or vice versa. However it is the terminologist’s opinion that "tank farm" should be looked at as a site or an area, and "tank battery" as a group, collection, or assembly of storage tanks.

Guiding lines are an extension of lane lines through an intersection... Guiding lines may be yellow or white, depending on the colour of the lines they extend. Guiding lines mark the left side of the turning lane. When there are dual turning lanes, the guiding line must be placed between the two lanes so as to clearly delineate each lane. Guiding lines are broken, except when turning is mandatory, in which case the lines are solid.

A favourite manoeuvre in naval battle with fleets sailing in the normal battle disposition of line ahead. If a fleet in this disposition, either by a superiority of speed or by approaching at an angle, can cross ahead of the enemy's line approximately at right angles, it has a considerable tactical advantage in that all its guns can be fired on the broadside while the enemy can reply only with those guns which can fire ahead. It is also a tactical situation which forces an enemy to turn away, and in the resulting loss of speed during the turn and the difficulty of keeping guns bearing on an enemy while turning, the fleet "crossing the T" has a considerable gunnery advantage.

[Transceiver Search.] The grid search method. The traditional search pattern is a grid based on perpendicular lines crossing the points of maximum signal strength.

[Transceiver Search. ] The second method is the grid method. When you find a signal, traverse back and forth across the slope. Where you think the signal is strongest(or, better yet, midway between fade points), you simply make a perpendicular turn(90 degrees to the old direction) and follow this new line. If the signal fades, it's the wrong way, so turn around(180 degrees) and march in the other direction until you hear the strongest signal(remember to keep turning down the volume). Turn 90 degrees again and repeat the process over and over until you zero in on the buried beacon.

An electronic hand-held weather recording device used, for instance, by car racing teams, sailors, farmers, outdoor and weather enthusiasts.

... hand held weather stations take about every weather factor into consideration. ... Very sophisticated ones not only measure weather conditions every second but make E.T. or throttle stop predictions every 4 seconds. A sophisticated drag racing weather station will allow you to store data on as many as 256 previous runs and performs an analysis to give you a prediction based on the weather conditions instantly. It can keep and use separate databases for separate vehicles, tracks, or classes. Some of the really sophisticated stations have a prediction deviation function [which] gives a reliability value of the prediction. It gives you a margin of error based on the information in the database that you chose. Within the last few years, windmeters have been added to the weather station box of tricks.

The Kestrel line of wind meters or anemometers... in less than 60 seconds, provide the answer to the major spraying season question that haunts producers each morning :"How windy is it?" The Kestrel 1000... gives a fast answer to wind speed average and gusts.... the model 2000 will add temperature and for those really cold days on the sprayer, add wind chill to that list. The 3000 adds humidity, dew point and heat stress index.... But for an all out weather station you can hold in the palm of your hand, the Kestrel 4000 provides all of this, in addition to wet bulb, altitude, air density and barometric pressure. Most importantly, 250 of these readings can be recorded in the device's memory and later transferred to the farm computer.... Michael Naughton of Nielsen Keller-man said the company released the 1000 in 1999 with the intention of it being a tool for sailors and outdoor sports and weather enthusiasts. "Farmers are turning out to be a really big part of our business. The 4000 is really popular with them. We were surprised by the demand for little hand-held weather stations, "he said.

Lead-in line. These lines provide guidance from apron taxiways into specific aircraft stands. They may be required to enable taxiing aircraft to maintain a prescribed clearance from other aircraft on the apron. They may be considered as important as the turning line to align the aircraft axis with the predetermined final position. For nose-in stands, the lead-in lines will mark the stand centre line to the aircraft stopping position.
