Record 4 2020-10-29

English

Subject field(s)
  • Maneuvering of Ships
  • River and Sea Navigation
DEF

… the horizontal angle through which the ship swings in executing a turn, measured from a ship’s original course to her final course.

CONT

The magnitude of the width increase is also a function of the vessel turning angle, radius of curvature, sight distance, environmental conditions, as well as the length, beam, speed and manoeuvrability of the vessel.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Manœuvre des navires
  • Navigation fluviale et maritime
CONT

OBS

Wakefield already has a number of traffic calming devices such as the sidewalk extension at the intersection of Chesnut and Main in the Square... the sidewalk is extended a short distance into the roadway [providing] several benefits to pedestrians. First, it shortens the crossing distance, especially important to slower walkers such as the elderly and folks with children in tow. Next, it gives pedestrians a safe place to see around parked cars to view traffic. Finally, the extension sharpens the turning radius, causing vehicles to slow down when turning the corner.
