Record 3 2003-12-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Organizations, Administrative Units and Committees
  • Rugby
OBS

All Blacks. New Zealand is notable for two things: sheep and having the best, most fearsome rugby team in the world. They won the inaugural world cup in 1987 and have been close in the three since rugby has been played in New Zealand since 1870 ...

OBS

... the All Blacks are still one of the top teams in the world of rugby, and are now gaining share of heart as well as share of mind.

OBS

There are two versions of how the name originated. The first is that after one of the team's big victories a certain newspaper had intended to have as its headline ALL BACKS; intimating that the forwards were playing like backs; but a typographical error actually gave the headline as ’ALL BLACKS’. The other, and the one to which I incline, is that the name originated with the London ’Daily Mail' Rugby writer, J A Buttery, who in a paper-back issued after the tour, ’Why the All Blacks Triumphed’; said that he began referring to the team as All Blacks because of the colour of their uniform.

OBS

Usually construed as a plural and preceded by the definite article.

CONT

A short-answer question should require only a few words, phrases or sentences for a complete answer.

CONT

Short-answer questions require the student to type words or numbers... A single-word response is much easier for a computer program to judge than the multiple-word response... Such questions are common in computer-based math and science lessons. The length of expected responses in short-answer questions should be as short as possible, both to prevent typographical error and to facilitate judging.

CONT

The three major types of constructed-response questions are: completion, short-answer, and essay questions. However, only the first two are used in computer-based instruction.

French
