The Continuous Bread Making System uses the following basic elements : A liquid ferment, brew or liquid sponge is prepared and allowed to ferment in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature conditions for several hours. The fermented mixtures are cooled by the use of refrigerated coils between the walls of the tanks until ready to be used. This process eliminates setting individual sponges and dough's, and the need for dough troughs and large fermentation rooms — a method of bringing together continuously all the ingredients in the right proportion for the dough. 1, record 30, English, - liquid%20ferment

Acetic acid is the most extensively used organic acid, and is obtained either by the oxidation of alcohol and aldehyde, or by the destructive distillation of wood and carbohydrates in general. This yields an impure pyroligneous vinegar, which is subsequently purified. ... Stahl proposed in 1700 a method to obtain acetic acid from vinegar by exposing the latter substance to a freezing temperature, separating the ice from the stronger acid; another method he suggested was to neutralize with an alkali and to evaporate, then distilling with an equal amount of sulphuric acid. In 1759 Count de Lauraguais obtained a crystallized acetic acid in a distillate of cuprum acetate, then known as "copper spirit." The name glacial acetic acid was affixed to this substance by Löwitz (1793), who repeatedly distilled diluted acetic acid with powdered charcoal, and obtained thereby a crystalline acid by subjecting the product to a low temperature. 5, record 31, English, - glacial%20acetic%20acid

The factors which contribute to the irreversible denaturation of soluble enzymes(aggregation, autolysis, etc.) are different from the factors likely to be responsible for irreversible denaturation of proteins... As a rule, denaturation of enzymes induced by elevated temperature, extreme pH values, or organic solvents can only be irreversible as a result of secondary processes, e. g., aggregation, chemical modification of functional groups, autolysis or degradation induced by admixtures of other enzymes, or breakage of the native disulphide bonds.... It is likely that the denatured immobilized enzyme may adopt an incorrect conformation upon removal of the denaturing conditions. In these circumstances it is proposed that subsequent denaturation and renaturation under controlled conditions may permit the immobilized enzyme to refold and renature to the correct conformation. 2, record 36, English, - irreversible%20denaturation

1, record 36, French, - d%C3%A9naturation%20irr%C3%A9versible

A dangerously reactive material can react vigorously : with water to produce a very toxic gas; on its own by polymerization or decomposition; or under conditions of shock, or an increase in pressure or temperature. A dangerously reactive material may cause a fire, explosion or other hazardous condition. The test equipment consists of a horizontal tunnel 7.6 m long, 450 mm wide, and 300 mm deep ... The roof is removable and lined with a low density material of mineral composition. The walls and floor are constructed of refractory fire brick. One wall has observation windows along its length. Flames from two burners at one end are forced down the tunnel by a steady draught of air at 1.2 m/s. These burner flames are about 1.37 m long, release heat at a steady rate of about 90 kW, and impinge directly on the test specimen, which is mounted either on the floor or on the ceiling of the tunnel. This exposure is similar in intensity to what occurs when a small piece of furniture leaning against a wall is set on fire. The tunnel is calibrated by adjusting the rate of heat release of the burners so that it takes about five and a half minutes for flames to reach the exhaust end of the tunnel when the specimen is 18 mm select-grade red oak. In the exhaust duct at the end of the tunnel are a light source and detector for measuring smoke and a thermocouple for determining heat released. 3, record 46, English, - tunnel%20test

1, record 46, French, - essai%20en%20tunnel

Burst Strength. There are two test methods to load fabrics out of plane, thereby stressing them in tension until failure occurs. The most common is the Mullen burst test ... . In this test, an inflatable rubber membrane is used to distort the fabric into the shape of a hemisphere. Bursting of the fabric occurs when no further deformation is possible. The test is essentially an index which is widely used for quality control and cited in most specifications. 6, record 50, English, - bursting%20strength

Environmental Fate. The intent of environmental fate information is to provide an understanding of the factors that influence the short and long-term presence of the microorganism in the environment.... Controlled environmental fate studies. Fate data is most crucial when the effects data demonstrate either a wide host range or significant adverse effects(e. g., adverse effects on plants and animals, or other non-target organisms of environmental and/or economic importance). Environmental fate data may come from well designed microcosm experiments, mesocosm experiments, or it may come from other long-term, controlled studies in which the fate of the microorganism is tested or monitored. Environmental fate test data may include but should not be limited to :-persistence, multiplication and dispersion of the microorganism under different conditions and in different environments(land, marine, freshwater, etc.), and;-the ability of the genetic material introduced into a genetically modified microorganism to be transferred to other organisms or to persist in the environment. 1, record 53, English, - environmental%20fate%20test

3, record 55, French, - enceinte%20perfectionn%C3%A9e%20de%20cristallisation%20des%20prot%C3%A9ines

Extruded polystyrene [XEPS] foam begins with solid polystyrene crystals. The crystals, along with special additives and a blowing agent, are fed into an extruder. Within the extruder the mixture is combined and melted, under controlled conditions of high temperature and pressure, into a viscous plastic fluid. The hot, thick liquid is then forced in a continuous process through a die. As it emerges from the die it expands to a foam, is shaped, cooled, and trimmed to dimension. This continuous extrusion process results in a unique foam product with a uniform closed-cell structure, a smooth continuous skin, and consistent product qualities, qualities unequaled by other insulation types. 6, record 61, English, - extruded%20polystyrene%20foam

Extruded polystyrene foam ... There is considerable confusion about extruded foam, mainly because it is made by many different companies, and appears in many different colors and densities. There is "artboard", green foam, pink foam, gray foam, blue foam and more. All of these are extruded polystyrene. The lowest density extruded styrene foams all range about 1.75 pounds per cubic foot. Curiously, extruded foam panels from the same manufacturer exhibit considerable variation in density ... ranging from 1.8 to 2.1 pounds per cubic foot, all in the same batch. ... Different manufacturers also produce different qualities of extruded foam. Some foam seems to have more impurities and air bubbles than others. 7, record 61, English, - extruded%20polystyrene%20foam

1, record 61, French, - mousse%20de%20polystyr%C3%A8ne%20extrud%C3%A9e

Even when the designer has settled the size and angle of the tail plane, the force which it will experience will be outside the control of the pilot, and although they may automatically compensate for such things as changes in pitching moment on the main planes, they cannot possibly deal with changes of weight such as are caused by the dropping of bombs, consumption of fuel, and changes in the disposition of passengers and cargo. For this reason the adjustable tail plane was introduced, this being operated by an actuating gear and controlled by a wheel or lever in the pilot's cockpit. This enabled the pilot to alter the angle of setting of the tail plane during flight and so cause downward or upward forces upon it at will, thus balancing the aeroplane under all conditions. 2, record 76, English, - adjustable%20tailplane

In general, ship garbage resembles average municipal garbage. When it is generated near shore or in port it must be put ashore into dock-side reception facilities. When at sea, food wastes and other biodegradables may be "discharged" overboard under controlled conditions, but plastics... must be put ashore, no matter where they are generated. One type of waste presents a classification problem, namely dry bulk cargo residues such as grains, fertilizers, ores and others. 1, record 97, English, - dry%20bulk%20cargo%20residues

1, record 97, French, - r%C3%A9sidus%20secs%20de%20cargaison%20en%20vrac
