3, record 10, French, - avion%20%C3%A0%20ailes%20basculantes

Two-degree-of-freedom, dry, tuned-gimbal gyroscope. This name is used to differentiate between this instrument and the floated gyro... In the static condition as the rotor is moved up and down, the motion is accommodated by the flexure pivots associated with the gimbal. This motion is resisted by the spring force of the flexure pivots. As the motor is brought up to velocity, a speed is reached at which the gimbal-flexure pivot combination is in resonance. At resonance no force about the sensitive axes(x, y) can be transmitted between the motor shaft and the rotor; hence, the two are decoupled. 2, record 16, English, - flexure%20pivot

Flights of locks may be replaced by inclines, by shaft locks or by lifts.... Shaft locks have the upper part of the bottom gates fixed and only the lower part opening : the part of the lock above the bottom gates thus forms a vertical shaft up which the boat is floated when the lock is filled with water. Examples occur at Minden, Anderton and on the rivers Shannon and Rhône(Donzère-Mondragon). 2, record 25, English, - shaft%20lock

Windmills therefore fall into different classes according to the value of tip speed ratio(TSR) at which they operate. Slow running windmills, like the common farm air turbine, may operate at TSR=1 or 2, and with the fastest running windmills, perhaps up to TSR=6 or 7.(...) In the case of horizontal shaft windmills, it [the fast running windmill] resembles an ordinary propeller with rather wide blades, whereas a slow running windmill must be fitted with a large number of blades. 1, record 27, English, - slow%20running%20windmill
