Unlike soluble fibre, insoluble fibre does not dissolve in water. The main types of insoluble fibre include cellulose(primary material of plant cell walls), many hemicelluloses(cereal fibres), and lignins(non-polysaccharide). This is the best type of fibre for constipation, as it helps draw water into the stool to soften it and can help speed up transit time. Estimates of catch typically make up the bulk of the data that is applied to a stock assessment model. But most stock assessment models also require some kind of index of abundance. The index of abundance is a value that indicates the trend in relative abundance over time. Often[, ] an index of abundance is simply the number of fish caught during a survey. The index of abundance for a cod stock, for example, may be the average number of cod caught per tow from a research vessel. Experts recommend that skiers and snowboarders wear a ski helmet in order to reduce the risk of a head injury while skiing. Ski helmets help absorb the shock of an impact to the head, and reduce the jarring of the brain against the skull during impacts with the ski slope or other objects, such as trees or other skiers. The right helmet substantially reduces the risk of concussions and other serious head injuries. ... When choosing a ski or snowboard helmet, look for a helmet that meets ski and snowboard helmet standards from the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), European Committee for Standardization (CEN) or Snell. There should be a label or sticker on the inside of the helmet to designate such a standard. 5, record 19, English, - ski%20helmet

Continuous aeration is an alternative aeration fan design approach that has become more popular in recent years. In this type of system, aeration fans are run continuously(24 hours per day, 7 days per week [24/7]), and the rate at which air is supplied to the composting pile is controlled by dampers, by using a variable frequency drive(VFD) to speed up and slow down the aeration fan, or by a combination of these two methods. 1, record 36, English, - continuous%20aeration

The nanomotor has a positioning stroke up to some centimeters while operating with atomic resolution and thus builds a bridge over eight orders of magnitude. The nanomotor is a piezo driven linear motor consisting of a cylindrical housing and a slider with a free axial hole inside. It utilizes a piezo tube for fine positioning and a pulse wave produced by the same piezo tube for coarse movements. Every point of its stroke can be reached with a speed of up to 5 mm/s. In its free axial hole the nanomotor can transport a tip, a hose, an electrode, a hypodermic needle, a glass fiber or even a microgripper. The nanomotor is available in three different versions. The "small" nanomotor is half the size of a match stick. It can lift six times of its own mass. The dynamic force of this nanomotor is so high, that even imprints in diamond surfaces can be produced. Special versions of the nanomotor can operate in ultra high vacuum, in liquid helium, even under water or as non-magnetic drives. 3, record 43, English, - nanomotor

Speed up effects : Tunnel effect. If you push an ordinary bicycle air pump,... you will notice that the air leaving the nozzle moves much faster than the speed with which you are pushing. The reason, of course, is that the nozzle is much narrower than the cylinder in the pump. If you take a walk between tall buildings, or in a narrow mountain pass, you will notice that the same effect is working : the air becomes compressed on the windy side of the buildings or mountains, and its speed increases considerably between the obstacles to the wind. This is known as a "tunnel effect. "So, even if the general wind speed in open terrain may be, say, 6 metres per second, it can easily reach 9 meters per second in a natural "tunnel". Placing a wind turbine in such a tunnel is one clever way of obtaining higher wind speeds than in the surrounding areas. 4, record 45, English, - tunnel%20effect

"So, even if the general wind speed in open terrain may be, say, 6 metres per second, it can easily reach 9 metres per second in a natural "tunnel. "Placing a wind turbine in such a tunnel is one clever way of obtaining higher wind speeds than in the surrounding areas. 2, record 46, English, - speed%2Dup%20effect

StratSat provides a geo-stationary platform at 20 km altitude capable of remaining on-station for up to five years. Payloads include high speed Internet services, direct broadcast TV, mobile telecommunication, etc. The envelope operates as a super-pressure hull(i. e. with no ballonet pressure control system). The hull will be of laminated fabric construction with Tedlar/Teflon, helium/weather barrier developed from AT-10/04. Multiple catenary curtain system supporting a payload module enclosed completely by the envelope. [The] payload module... comprises a single structural module with an externally mounted payload/mission system. The payload module provides a home for all of the airship's primary systems except for the propulsion system. The systems are close packed within the highly insulated module ensuring efficient heat and energy management. The payload module is pendulum stabilised within the envelope. The solar array provides the sole source of renewable energy for the airship. The array is placed over the upper quarter of the hull and extends over approximately three-quarters of the length of the craft. The array can be realigned to the daily sun location/angle by the roll rotation of the whole airship. The energy collected by the solar array is stored for use during the night in the series of batteries. Located in the stored for use during the night in a series of batteries. Located in the payload module, the batteries run the propulsion system, airship services and provide power to the mission system for up to 14 hours(during winter). The airship is propelled and steered by means of a ’Contra-Rotating Coned Rotor’ mounted on a tailcone at the rear of the envelope, as a part of a compound propulsion system. The unit provides longitudinal thrust(to counter the prevailing stratospheric winds) and lateral force(for manoeuvering) to enable the airship to hold station within a 1 km cube. The airship will be equipped with a multi-channel Flight Control Sy 7, record 48, English, - StratSat%C2%AE

The laws of physics provide only a single orbital arc, called the Geostationary Orbital Arc, over the Earth’s equator, at a distance of about 22,500 miles, where the orbital period of a satellite is the same as the Earth’s rotational period. Thus, a satellite placed in this geosynchronous orbital arc over the Equator will remain fixed over a single spot on the Earth’s surface, as if it was at the top of a tall tower. The fact that there is only one such orbital arc, and it is uniquely useful for communicationsatellites, creates a limited resource, i.e. orbital positions along the arc. 3, record 55, English, - orbital%20arc

The word radiation is commonly used in several distinct although related senses. First, it is a term for the process by which energy is transferred and is able to exert an effect at a distance without the need for any physical connection between source and receiver. In this broad sense, radiation includes energy transfer both by electromagnetic waves (as in the case of gamma rays, ultra-violet rays or radio waves) and by energetic particles (such as alpha or beta particles emitted from nuclei in the process of radioactive decay). The more precise terms "electromagnetic radiation" and "particulate radiation" differentiate between these two phenomena. 4, record 56, English, - electromagnetic%20radiation

Energetech Australia is building a prototype electricity generator based on wave power on the breakwater at Port Kembla in New South Wales. A submerged chamber is open below the water level. When the waves rise up around the chamber, the water inside the chamber rises and falls with the waves. This compresses and decompresses air above the water in the chamber, creating airflow which drives a turbine. The turbines work with the air flowing in both directions. The blades change angle, depending on the speed and direction of the airflow … An ocean wall in the shape of a parabola concentrates the wave energy onto a central point where the power station is located … The amount of converted energy depends on the wind speed, the time the wind blows over the waves, and the distance it covers. During a wave's voyage, it shapes into a more regular wave, commonly referred to as a swell. At ocean shores, swells are very regular and discernable, even when the sea is calm. 1, record 65, English, - wave%20energy%20breakwater

The origins of most ice sports are understandably rooted in countries and regions of the world that have colder climates.... Most residents and natives of these areas have grown up with, and enjoy participating in ice sports such as broom ball, ice hockey, curling, figure skating, speed skating and ringette. However, these sports are also very popular in many other parts of the world with some of them such as curling, ice hockey, figure skating and speed skating, being Olympic sports. Most of these sports originated outdoors on frozen lakes, rivers and ponds many years ago and although they can still be enjoyed outdoors, they are now mainly played indoors from the comfort and warmth of luxurious ice arenas. 2, record 70, English, - ice%20sport

... Assystem City Car... is remarkably easy to park, and not only because of its compact dimensions(3. 60 m long, 1. 60 m wide and 1. 60 m tall), or its light weight(only 600 kg), but also because it has three axles, a central one, with two wheels, and one wheel in each extreme of the car(front and end). These single wheel axles are the ones responsible for moving and turning the Assystem City Car. The front wheel is powered by an electrical engine with 20 kW(about 27 cv), which can push the car to 50 km/h of top speed and has 30 km of autonomy, basically what regular people need to go to work and back home every day. For the roads, there is a little combustion engine that delivers 60 cv in the rear axle. It can lead the vehicle to a top speed of 130 km/h and, with its 30 l fuel tank, can carry the Assystem City Car to up to 600 km. Both engines can be used together, what turns this car into a hybrid. This vehicle, albeit small, can carry up to five people and their luggage. It has a low gravity center, what enhances dynamics, its oval shape prevents serious accident consequences and, when visibility is low, a screen takes the place of the regular windshield and shows the driver infrared images of the road, guiding him/her safely to destination. 1, record 71, English, - Assystem%20City%20Car

Assystem City Car [...] 2, record 71, French, - Assystem%20City%20Car

... dive flaps or dive brakes... serve to slow an aircraft in flight. These brakes are used when descending at a steep angle or when approaching the runway for a landing. The brakes themselves are manufactured in many shapes, and their location depends on the design of the aircraft and the purpose of the brakes. The brake panels may be located on certain parts of the fuselage or on the wing surfaces. Brakes on the fuselage are small panels that can be extended into the smooth airflow to create turbulence and drag. Wing-type brakes may be multiple-finger channels extending above and below the wing surfaces to break up smooth airflow. Usually speed brakes are controlled by electrical switches and actuated by hydraulic pressure. 6, record 73, English, - dive%20brake

Pyrolytic Reactions and Products of Biomass.... Presence of air increases the rate of decomposition and pyrolysis by oxidation of the substrate at the lower temperatures. At the higher temperatures oxidation of the volatile pyrolysis products results in flaming combustion and oxidation of the char leads to smoldering or incandescence combustion according to the rate of reaction. Presence of water and steam is also known to speed up the breakdown and degradation of the molecules by hydrolysis of the substrate and rearrangement of the intermediate products. This process, known as hydrothermolysis, may be catalyzed by acids or alkali reagents as discussed later. At higher temperatures the steam plays a more direct and better known role as a reactant in the gasification of char and related processes. Moreover, a number of creditors, including the main multilaterals, started to provide earlier assistance to qualifying countries in the form of interim relief at decision point. Speed of Release. This is perhaps the most important aspect in the range of the throw. The speed of release is a function of how hard you work and for how long, divided by how heavy the load is.

It is called a cross-over stride because it is difficult to think of a better name, especially since the term "cross-step" does not really describe the action... A specialized machine called a ladder trencher, or ditcher, is effective for opening trenches for utility lines, telephone cables, drainage and sewer lines, and the like. It consists of two main components : a crawler, or rubber-tired carrier, and a digging mechanism. Depending on the soil condition and the depth of the trench to be excavated, the trencher can move at a speed of up to 2 miles(3. 2 kilometers) per hour. It has a long boom, and an endless chain rotates along the boom. Buckets or clamshells attached to this chain dig at the bottom of the trench, bring up excavated material, and unload it onto a conveyer while the machine moves slowly along. The width of the excavated trench ranges between 18 and 60 inches(46 and 152 centimeters). Ladder trencher can be used for digging depths of up to 20 feet(6 meters). 2, record 80, English, - ladder%20ditcher

On the beach the top of the wave breaks and mingles with the foot of the wave, both dashing forward with a force driven by the energy from the height and speed of the collapsing wave. The resulting rush of water is fast and strong and moves sand effortlessly up the beach. The water then comes to a rest as the sand particles settle out. The water then begins flowing back down the beach, first slowly and then faster until it dislodges cohesive sand grains. But the forcing power is much less than that of the on-rushing waves. The particles that settled at the top of the forward rush, stay because of the hysteresis(lagging behind) between erosion speed and settling speed... 3, record 84, English, - hysteresis

2, record 95, French, - roue%20de%20surpression
