CONT

Voiding cystourethrography(VCUG), also known as a micturating cystourethrography(MCU), is a fluoroscopic study of the lower urinary tract in which contrast is introduced into the bladder via a catheter. The purpose of the examination is to assess the bladder, urethra, postoperative anatomy and micturition in order to determine the presence or absence of bladder and urethral abnormalities...

CONT

Apart from clinical assessment, the methods of identifying Trichomonas vaginalis in women are ... (1) Examination of fresh preparations from the vagina or urethra by direct microscopy; (2) Culture in artificial media; (3) Microscopic examination of stained preparations. Direct microscopy. In this method a fresh specimen of the vaginal secretion is transferred ... from the vaginal vault to a glass microscope slide and examined under a cover slip using either oil immersion high power, dark-field, or phase contrast microscopy.

CONT

Because of the low sensitivity of direct microscopy, culture may be used, where available, to isolate the parasite from urethral swabs, urine sediments, prostate fluid and vaginal specimens.

CONT

DEF

A leakage of urine as a result of coughing, straining, or some sudden voluntary movement, due to incompetence of the sphincteric mechanisms.

CONT

Urinary stress incontinence occurs when the urethral sphincter or pelvic muscle cannot adequately support the bladder. This allows the bladder to slip down into the pelvic cavity and place pressure on the urethra, the duct that carries urine from the bladder to outside the body. As a result, body movements, such as exercising, coughing or sneezing, can place additional pressure on the bladder causing it to leak. Although it can affect anyone, it is a common condition among women who have gone through childbirth or menopause.

The formation of urinary calculi, or uroliths, results when urinary solutes are precipitated out of solution. The obstruction of the urethra with these calculi is a fatal disease unless the obstruction is relieved.

In some local areas of North America, soil, pasture and forage types are such that steers are at increased risk of urolithiasis. Posterior urethral disruption or obliteration is most often the result of pelvic trauma. We describe a modified endoscopic technique used to reestablish urethral continuity in five patients with a minimum 2-year follow-up. This technique involved cold-knife incision of the scar without dilation followed by short-term catheterization. The advantages of endoscopic reestablishment of urethral continuity include short hospitalization, limited blood loss, no external incision, briefer operating time compared with open urethroplasty, and a stable patent urethra.
