Ferret provides full 360-degree coverage operating day and night in adverse weather conditions. It has been designed to locate the source of fire up to the effective range of a fired weapon. It calculates the range to the shooter complete coordinates... The system also and the bullet miss distance. The system also generates a digital log of all small arms fire events... When a Global Positioning System(GPS) and an orientation sensor [are] used, Ferret is designed to provide the shooter's complete coordinates... A defect found in logs that have been exposed to sun or wind for a long period of time. Sun dries out the wood, causing deep checks on the ends of the log. Heart check, caused by wind, is a radial split along the rays that pass through the center of the log. Weather check is found in logs cut from dead trees.
