English

Subject field(s)
  • Renewable Energy
  • Energy Transformation
  • Environmental Management
DEF

Energy which occurs in nature and which is recoverable by technical means.

CONT

Since 1974, important studies have been made for the use of this [wave] energy. According to evaluation by the research ship, "OCEAN WEATHER SHIP, INDIA" the average energy from a meter high wave gives 90 KW of power, and during the rough seas, this amount will increase many times. Considering that some countries have thousands of miles of coastlines, it gives us an idea of the enormous amount of this cheap and natural energy which remains unutilized.

CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Remote Sensing
CONT

... imaging radar systems are active sensors that "illuminate" surface features with broadcast microwave energy and record a returned signal. Most imaging radar systems produce microwaves with wavelengths between 1 cm and 1 meter, longer than the wavelengths used in weather radar to detect rain and snow. These longer wavelength microwave signals propagate through the atmosphere and clouds with almost no interaction or weakening. As a result imaging radar systems can be used to map surface features day or night and in almost any weather conditions. These characteristics make radar imaging especially useful in tropical and polar regions where persistent cloud cover hampers optical remote sensing efforts.

CONT

Surface Feature ...: quarries, surface roughness, boulder, fields, rock outcrops, soil type, disturbed soil.

OBS

surface feature: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

CONT

In the case of a circuit conditioned with polyphosphates and organic dispersants, a dose of about 100 g of CI2 per day and per cubic meter(100 ppm) of water in circulation is required in hot weather.
