In late 1997, Environment Canada's Prairie and Northern Region decided to re-organize its weather service program along a "centre of expertise" model. All aviation forecast services were consolidated in Edmonton, along with forecasting responsibility for the Canadian Arctic. The Prairie Aviation and Arctic Weather Centre(PAAWC) produces aviation forecasts for the three prairie provinces, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut(just over 50% of Canada by area), and it looks after 1/3 of the aerodrome forecasts(TAFs).

Support to [Savannah River Operations Office] SR operations is provided by the Westinghouse Savannah River Meteorological Program and includes daily weather forecast services for the SRS. Meteorological data is obtained from a local network... with sensors... Additional local upper-air data are collected from three acoustic Doppler radars, a Beukers rawinsonde system, and an airsonde and tethersonde system.

During SALPEX’96 the balloon tracked was often the same one as that carrying the AIR sonde used for the pressure / temperature / relative humidity measurements.

Environment Canada offers High Arctic accommodation, facilities and services to support graduate students enrolled in master's or doctoral studies at a Canadian university. Preference is given to environmental research proposals in the physical and/or biological sciences for which a location at a High Arctic weather station at Eureka is demonstrably advantageous. Opportunities are not confined to students engaged in weather-related studies. The program is administered by the Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies.

Environnement Canada offre ce programme d'aide sous forme de logement, d'installations et de services dans l'Extrême-Arctique pour appuyer des étudiants qui préparent leur maîtrise ou leur doctorat dans une université canadienne. La préférence est accordée aux propositions de recherche environnementale en sciences physiques ou biologiques, ou les deux, pour lesquelles il est évident que l'emplacement dans une station météorologique de l'Extrême-Arctique à Eureka est avantageux. L'aide accordée n'est cependant pas limitée aux étudiants qui font des recherches liées à la météorologie. Le programme est administré par l'Association universitaire canadienne d'études nordiques.
