Ionic detergent used for denaturation of protein and in electrophoresis of protein subunits. 1, record 4, English, - sodium%20dodecyl%20sulphate
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Detergent solubilization has been used with great success to study the major proteins in various membranes. Typically, the membranes are first heated to 100°C in a 1% solution of the strong detergent SDS(which disrupts all non-covalent protein-protein and protein-lipid interactions and completely unfolds the proteins), then layered on top of a polyacrylamide gel containing SDS, and lastly subjected to electrophoresis in a strong electric field for several hours. The amount of anionic SDS bound to protein is roughly equal to the mass of the polypeptide, with the result that the negative charge of the detergent overwhelms the intrinsic charge of the protein. Consequently, each individual protein migrates in the electric field at a rate determined by its molecular weight. 4, record 4, English, - sodium%20dodecyl%20sulphate

2, record 4, French, - dod%C3%A9cyl%20sulfate%20de%20sodium
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 CONT
4, record 4, French, - dod%C3%A9cyl%20sulfate%20de%20sodium

When the detergent sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) is used with electrophoresis, the proteins are separated mainly according to their molecular weight. This is because SDS binds to the proteins, giving them large numbers of negative charges due to the sulfate. Thus, most of the protein charges will come from the SDS, minimizing the role of charge differences between individual proteins(differences which would otherwise affect electrophoretic mobility), and all the proteins migrate according to their size. 4, record 6, English, - electrophoretic%20mobility

One of the most profitable and competitive sectors of the paper industry is the "soft" tissue market. Here, the customer pays for bulk and softness, and the producer finds himself in the happy position of being able to charge a higher price for a product which actually contains a lower weight of fiber. Naturally, there has been considerable incentive to develop proprietary low-density manufacturing techniques which will give a competitive edge; and those companies engaged in soft tissue production are reluctant to divulge their methodology. 1, record 14, English, - low%2Ddensity%20forming

Cartridge identification system in which many different means of designation have been used so far, caused by tradition, commercialisation, and very often by the many different cartridges of the same calibre. The following designations are only a few examples : a. 44-40-220 Winchester : Bullet diameter, weight of the black powder charge and weight of the bullet in grains. b. 44-40 Winchester : Later designation of the above cartridge with the bullet weight deleted. c. 30-06 Springfield : Bullet diameter and year of adoption in service. d. 45 ACP : Bullet diameter and abbreviation for "Auto Colt Pistol". e. 22 Short, 22 Long, 22 Long Rifle, 22 Extra Long : Bullet diameter and name to identify varying cartridge case lengths. f. 220 Swift, 222 Remington, 223 Remington, 224 Weatherby, 225 Winchester : All using bullets of the same diameter(. 224) but having different dimensions of cartridge cases. g. 250-3000 Savage : Bullet diameter and velocity in feet per second. h. 270 Winchester : Bore diameter. NOTE. Today, the most common American practice is to designate the cartridge by the approximate bullet diameter, which in the United States is similar in diameter to the groove diameter of the rifled barrel, and the designation till generally includes the name of the company which designed the cartridge. 1, record 15, English, - US%20cartridge%20designation

NOTE. 1, record 15, French, - appellation%20am%C3%A9ricaine%20des%20cartouches
