The set point theory [is] arguably the most influential and debated theory of body weight control. It suggests that like temperature in a room controlled by a thermostat, body weight(or body fat) is controlled by an equivalent device(ponderostat, adipostat) residing in the hypothalamus. Borrowing from the engineering vocabulary, this device receives feedback input from the controlled parameter(room temperature, body weight or body fat), and generates an error signal in a comparator if this feedback signal is deviating from a preset reference value(set point). The error signal is used to turn up or down any mechanisms that determine the level of the controlled parameter(heat production or dissipation in the case of room temperature, metabolizable energy-in or energy lost in the case of body weight/adiposity). 4, record 1, English, - ponderostat

2, record 1, French, - pond%C3%A9rostat

Bipedal gait and purposeful movement are astounding abilities of humans. The integration of spatial position, stability of balance, and locomotion is complex... In humans the bulk of weight is in the proximal parts of the limbs and trunk... Such a structure is inherently unstable and prone to falls. The success of the human species with such an "engineering handicap" seems surprising at first, but there are important advantages in bipedal locomotion. It allows quick positional changes in all directions and rapid acceleration and deceleration in emergencies, it offers a good view of the surrounding environment and, probably most importantly, it minimises the energy expenditure of movement... 2, record 6, English, - bipedal%20gait

2, record 6, French, - marche%20bip%C3%A8de

Light alloys and light metals have low density and high strength-to-weight ratios. Light weight metals include aluminum, magnesium, titanium, and beryllium alloys. Light alloys and light metals are usually less toxic than heavy metals, though beryllium is toxic.... Aluminum-lithium alloys are examples of newer, high-performance, light aluminum metal alloys. Special properties of light alloys and light metals include excellent corrosion resistance and stiffness. Titanium has superior corrosion resistance compared to most light alloys and light metals. The Mg-Li [magnesium-lithium] alloy is the lightest structural alloy available in the light alloys and light metals markets.... Light alloys and light metals are used in [engineering design and also in] automotive, aircraft, aerospace vehicles, and marine applications to provide weight savings and reduced fuel consumption. 1, record 7, English, - light%20alloy
