WEIGHT EXPERIMENT [7 records]

Record 1 2004-03-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Scientific Measurements and Analyses
CONT

The fresh weight/dry weight ratio was determined for all of the leaves used. Fresh weights were determined prior to subjecting leaves to desiccation, and dry weights at the end of each experiment, often after inducing large water deficits.

Domaine(s)
  • Mesures et analyse (Sciences)
CONT

A part of the International Space Station that Japan is responsible for is an experiment module named "Kibo, "or "hope" in Japanese... Kibo will consist of a Pressurized Module, an Exposed Facility, an Experiment Logistics Module-Pressurized Section, an Experiment Logistics Module-Exposed Section, and a Remote Manipulator System. The largest segment among these is the Pressurized Module, which will be a multipurpose laboratory of 11. 2 meters in length and 15. 9 tons in weight with a capacity to accommodate up to four crew members. The module will be equipped with ten experiment racks installed on walls, on which various experiments including material tests and life science experiments will be conducted. The air pressure in the module will be kept at one atmosphere, which is the same level as that on Earth, and the temperature and humidity will be also be controlled at a comfortable level to allow crew members to work in normal clothing.

The EXPRESS Rack utilizes an International Standard Payload Rack(ISPR) in conjunction with secondary structure and avionics hardware, resulting in a simple payload interface. The rack provides accommodations for eight middeck lockers and two Standard Interface Rack(SIR) drawers. Each middeck location can accommodate 72 pounds of experiment equipment, including container weight. Each SIR drawer position accommodates 64 pounds, including the weight of the drawer. A total of 2 kW of 28 Vdc power is provided to the payloads in the rack, with each payload position receiving up to 500 W.

Liquid which flows from the tissues of frozen produce on thawing.

CONT

The objectives of this experiment were to investigate the processing of pink salmon into boneless fillets and mince and to determine changes in quality during frozen storage... To determine thaw drip, an unthawed portion of the same size as that used for sensory analysis was weighed and placed in a perforated plastic bag which was placed inside an outer bag weighted to insure submersion. The samples were immersed in a 15°C bath for 40 min, and the thawed portion weighed. Thaw drip was carried out in duplicate and calculated as the percent original weight lost by thawing.
