In an ordinary domestic English case, or a conflicts case where English law is the proper law of the contract, a clause referring to payment in gold of a specified standard of weight and fineness is presumed to be a gold value clause : it does not impose an obligation to pay gold or gold coins, but is used to ascertain or measure the amount of the debt, so that the debtor is obliged to pay in legal tender of the chosen currency the amount necessary at the date of payment to purchase gold or gold coins to the nominal amount of the debt.

Fibre fitness is another important fibre character affecting yarn strength. It gives number of fibres in the cross-section of yarn. Better the fineness of cotton, more would be the number of fibres per cross-section resulting in higher yarn strength. When other characteristics are same, fine fibres will produce a yarn of higher strength than coarse fibres.

Titrage. Opération qui consiste à mesurer le titre d'un fil. Cette mesure doit être réalisée avec des précautions relatives au conditionnement de la matière. Lorsqu'elle s'effectue à partir d'enroulements (cônes, bobines...) elle nécessite un dévidoir et une balance de précision. Dans le cas où le titrage se fait à partir des fils détricotés. on pourra utiliser le maille-mètre; ce choix est judicieux puisque la même mesure de longueur servira à la fois à la mesure de la serre du tricot et à la détermination du titre des fils constituants. Ce cas d'analyse est très fréquent, notamment pour traiter le problème de la reproduction d'un échantillon donné. (Les défauts des Tricots, p.14).

Titre du fil. Mesure relative à la finesse des fils. Deux catégories de systèmes sont employés: (1) Le système de titrage direct (égal à la masse linéique) est la masse de fil par unité de longueur. Ce système est appliqué pour la soie et les fils continus manufacturés. (2) Le système de numérotage indirect (égal à la masse linéique réciproque) est la longueur du fil par unité demasse. Ce système est utilisé pour le coton, le lin et les différentes sortes de filés de laine.
