Factors that affect the appearance of a latent print include the pliability of skin, condition of skin, deposition pressure, lateral movement, matrix (substance coating the ridges), substrate (surface on which the print is deposited), and development method. An important part of the initial analysis is the determination of how these factors might affect the latent print. 3, record 1, English, - deposition%20pressure

It is well known that the pressure of deposition is an important parameter for the success of latent fingermark visualization; the higher the pressure the more fingermark material that is left. Therefore, for this indirect method, it was suggested that the female donors may have applied less force while depositing the fingermarks, due to the lighter weight of their hands compared to those of the male donors... 2, record 1, English, - deposition%20pressure

Volumetric estimates of fish in holding bins(converted to weight) comprise a more accurate method for deriving total catch weight. To apply this technique, first calculate the weight capacity of the holding bin from its volume. If the bin is cubic or rectangular, multiply its length(L), width(W), and height(W) to derive volume … If the holding area is odd-shaped, draw a diagram that separates it into symmetrical portions, calculate volume for each portion, then add these volumes. 1, record 2, English, - total%20catch%20weight

The idea of giving a weight to the particles, in proportion to their likely contribution to the result being sought. This should be associated with the Russian roulette consisting of “killing” particles whose weight is too low, with a probability that is proportional to the weight, and the “duplication” or “splitting” of particles that are too heavy. It can also be sometimes of interest to replace absorptions (capture and fission) by weight charges, without stopping the particles … 3, record 16, English, - splitting%20technique

… the optimization and quantification of particle splitting [is] a variance reduction technique that decreases the variance of a run, [sigma], or its relative error, R, while increasing its computational time, [tau]. This splitting technique is described in several papers, books, and reports. Geometry splitting associated with Russian roulette is one of the most widely used variance reduction techniques in Monte Carlo codes. When used effectively(i. e. splitting a volume in the right number of layers), this method causes a net increase in the figure of merit, FOM … [In a given example of splitting technique], an incident neutron n0 of weight W is split at the boundary crossing into two identical neutrons na and nb(same energy, direction) having half the weight of n0. Splitting. 1, record 16, French, - technique%20du%20splitting

Two methods are commonly used for determining the specific gravities of liquids. One method uses the hydrometer, an instrument that gives a specific gravity reading directly. A second method, called the bottle method, uses a "specific-gravity bottle, "i. e., a flask made to hold a known volume of liquid at a specified temperature(usually 20°C). The bottle is weighed, filled with the liquid whose specific gravity is to be found, and weighed again. The element-free Galerkin method is a method which... uses nodal points, but where the use of a connectivity is absent. Displacements and stresses in the material domain are approximated by means of a connectivity-free technique known as moving least squares approximation. This technique requires, besides the nodal data, a set of weight functions and a set of basic functions. Since the growth of crack surfaces can be reflected without changing a connectivity of nodes, it is possible to simulate crack propagation without remeshing. 4, record 24, English, - element%2Dfree%20Galerkin%20method

2, record 30, French, - rendement%20biologique

A variable-speed, positive-displacement pump sends adhesive into the reservoir. Spread control is determined by the width of the knife gap, the pump speed, and the viscosity of the glue... The gravity feed system is the forerunner of the pressure head. The application method is quite similar, with one important difference : the curtain velocity cannot be controlled. ... another possible way of creating permeability in hot dry rocks is «impact fracturing». This method... [may be described in its principle. ] A bore, cased except near the lower extremity, is surmounted by a hydraulic accumulator, filled with water and pressurized by means of a pump until the accumulator weight is lifted. The lifting pressure should be perhaps about 90% of the estimated hydro-fracturing pressure. A dynamic blow would then be struck upon the top of the water column by means of some device resembling a pile-driver, so that shock waves would travel to the base of the bore and be reflected up and down at attenuating intensity. Very high instantaneous pressures would be generated which would fracture the rock, and it is expected that the steepness of the pressure rise would be such as to resemble explosive action, so that the «star» formation... would be produced. 1, record 34, English, - impact%20fracturing

The bench method can enable you, with reasonable effort, to bring the felled trees manually to within a 10-metre radius of the track. This method consists in creating a workbench from the felled trees themselves. It enables you to work with your back straight and to move the trunks without unreasonable effort. The first tree is felled and prepared so as to act as a support for other trees that will be felled on top of it. Le premier arbre est abattu et préparé de façon à servir de support pour d'autres arbres qui viendront s'abattre dessus. Il doit être assez solide, car l'impact et le poids des arbres abattus peuvent écraser le support et en diminuer l'utilité. 1, record 36, French, - m%C3%A9thode%20de%20l%27%C3%A9tabli

Coating weights : Pure tin coating on a hot-dip tin plate is mechanically distributed over sheet surface by tinning rolls. Due to nature of this tinning operation and elevated temperature of metal it is not possible to control, within close limits, tin coating weight. For these and other reasons, coating is measured and described by "tin pot yield" method. Total weight(in pounds) of tin consumed in manufacture of one base box, is pot yield. Terms, charcoal plate and coke plate, which in last century described quality of iron used as a base metal, have now come to be applied to tin plate of certain coating thickness. Resistance to Temperature. ASTM Recommended Practice D 794 describes high-temperature testing for plastics. Only the procedure for heat exposure is specified, the test method being governed by the potential end use. Heat is applied using an oven with controlled air flow and with substantial fresh air intake. Two types of tests are described : continuous heat and cyclic heat. In the former, heat is gradually increased until failure occurs. Failure is defined as a change in appearance, weight, dimension, or other property that alters the material to a degree that it is no longer serviceable for the purpose in question. The test may take minutes to weeks, depending on the rate of temperature increase. The cyclic heat test repeatedly applies heat of a constant value until failure. 1, record 49, English, - cyclic%20heat%20test

Many proteins are oligomeric and contain more than one polypeptide chain. By a variation of... electrophoresis called SDS-gel electrophoresis, an oligomeric protein can be dissociated into its subunits and the molecular weight of the subunits determined. The method also can be used to determine the molecular weight of single-chain proteins... The proteins themselves are not in a simple aqueous solution but in one that includes a powerful, negatively charged detergent, sodium dodecyl sulfate, or SDS. Because this detergent binds to hydrophobic regions of the protein molecules, causing them to unfold into extended polypeptide chains, the individual protein molecules are freed from their associations with other proteins or lipid molecules and rendered freely soluble in the detergent solution.... The resulting unfolded polypeptide chains consequently have relatively large numbers of SDS molecules bound to them.... As a result, the SDS-denatured protein molecules acquire net negative charges that are approximately proportional to their molecular weights and will migrate in an imposed electric field at rates also approximately proportional to their molecular weights.(From LEBIP, 1975, p. 180; ACELL, 1983, p. 174; ZUBIO, 1983, pp. 59, 60) 2, record 50, English, - SDS%2Dgel%20electrophoresis
