Ghrelin, a new obesity related peptide and endogenous ligand for growth hormone seretagogue receptor(GHS-Rs), regulates pituitary growth hormone(GH) secretion. GHS-Rs distributed on hypothalamic neurons and in the brainstem. Ghrelin participates in energy balance in rodents by decreasing fat utilization without significantly changing energy expenditure or locomotor activity. Peripheral daily administration of Ghrelin caused weight gain by reducing fat utilization in mice and rats. Intracerebroventricular administration of Ghrelin generated a dose-dependent increase in food intake and body weight 1, record 2, English, - ghrelin

Leptin was identified in 1994 as the product of a gene that is defective in an obese strain of mice, ob/ob. Injection of leptin into the obese mice led to a return to normal weight, a result that made news headlines way beyond the scientific press. Further studies have shown that weight loss is a complex process, involving impaired response to leptin or the leptin receptor. 1, record 3, English, - leptin
