OBS

During the process, the smoke producing compounds are driven off as tars and oils and collected as valuable byproducts, leaving a coke with about 10 percent volatile matter. The coke yield is about 14 hundred weight per ton and used as a domestic fuel.

Carbonisation à basse température. Au cours des cinquante dernières années, de nombreux essais ont été entrepris en vue de carboniser le charbon à des températures relativement basses : 500 à 700 °C, au lieu des températures de plus de 1 100 °C que l'on utilise dans les fours à coke traditionnels. [...] Les procédés avaient pour objet initial la production de combustibles liquides à partir d'un charbon de qualité secondaire inapte à la carbonisation à haute température. On obtenait du semi-coke et, comme sous-produits, des goudrons riches en phénols, crésols et huiles légères, une essence brute aromatique, des eaux ammoniacales que l'on transformait en sulfate d'ammonium, des gaz riches dont le pouvoir calorifique supérieur dépassait 20 kJ/m³.

Another form of expressing iron ore prices is cost per iron ore unit, which is a more universal convention that can be used to compare ores with different grades in each product form. One metric ton iron unit consists of 1% iron in the metric ton of ore or, expressed directly in weight, one metric ton unit consists of 10 kg of iron. Accordingly the price of a ton of iron ore is obtained by multiplying the price of an iron unit by the grade of iron expressed in percent.

Pellets (per tonne natural iron unit). ... Equals 1 per cent of a tonne. A 60 per cent iron ore, therefore, has 60 units.
