The set point theory [is] arguably the most influential and debated theory of body weight control. It suggests that like temperature in a room controlled by a thermostat, body weight(or body fat) is controlled by an equivalent device(ponderostat, adipostat) residing in the hypothalamus. Borrowing from the engineering vocabulary, this device receives feedback input from the controlled parameter(room temperature, body weight or body fat), and generates an error signal in a comparator if this feedback signal is deviating from a preset reference value(set point). The error signal is used to turn up or down any mechanisms that determine the level of the controlled parameter(heat production or dissipation in the case of room temperature, metabolizable energy-in or energy lost in the case of body weight/adiposity).

The rack deadlift is a partial version of the conventional deadlift. You perform it inside a power rack with pins set so that the bar is located just above the knees. It is an excellent exercise for beginners–you don’t have to use a full ROM [range of movement], and having the rack is like using a spotter. Deadlifts from a racked position emphasize your low back muscles, because you won’t be bending as low and thereby incorporating your legs. The Klemheist knot (or Machard knot) is a type of friction hitch used as a part of a system to ascend or descend a climbing rope. ... A Prusik loop is wrapped round the climbing rope two or three times. The loop is then threaded through itself and carefully tightened to wrap the climbing rope neatly. In use, strain must only be taken on the hanging loop. Never grip and pull on the knot itself-a rapid descent can occur! If the knot slips when load is placed on the hanging loop, wrap the loop around the climbing rope another time or two as necessary until there is no slippage.

The knot is tied with a thin cord, usually 5 mm or 6 mm in diameter, onto the rope. The climber then attaches himself to the knot by clipping the cord onto his harness. Progress up a fixed rope is made by sliding the knot up the rope and then weighting or loading it with the climber's weight. When loaded, the Klemheist knot cinches onto the climbing rope, allowing the climber to progress upward. When the knot is unloaded, it loosens, allowing the climber to slide it up the rope.

Normal thermal stratification of a pond, if it is to occur, generally begins in May or early June and ends in September or early October. Ponds can stratify because water attains maximum density at 39°F. It becomes less dense(lighter in weight) both above and below 39°F. The front wheel is powered by an electrical engine with 20 kW(about 27 cv), which can push the car to 50 km/h of top speed and has 30 km of autonomy, basically what regular people need to go to work and back home every day. For the roads, there is a little combustion engine that delivers 60 cv in the rear axle. It can lead the vehicle to a top speed of 130 km/h and, with its 30 l fuel tank, can carry the Assystem City Car to up to 600 km. Both engines can be used together, what turns this car into a hybrid. This vehicle, albeit small, can carry up to five people and their luggage. It has a low gravity center, what enhances dynamics, its oval shape prevents serious accident consequences and, when visibility is low, a screen takes the place of the regular windshield and shows the driver infrared images of the road, guiding him/her safely to destination.

The xenon ion propulsion system, or XIPS(pronounced "zips"), is the culmination of nearly four decades of research into the use of electric propulsion as an alternative to conventional chemical propulsion.... the increased efficiency possible with XIPS allows for a reduction in propellant mass of up to 90% for a satellite designed for 12 to 15 years operation. Less propellant results in reduced cost for launch, an increase in payload, or an increase in satellite lifetime, or any combination of the above.... The on-board XIPS system is used primarily for spacecraft stationkeeping. Small thrusts are required to correct for the tug of solar or lunar gravity and to reposition the satellite in its proper orbit and altitude. A satellite's lifetime as well as its launch weight is thus determined by the amount of fuel aboard for its thruster system. While most current satellites use a chemical bipropellant propulsion system, a XIPS-equipped satellite instead uses the impulse generated by a thruster ejecting electrically charged particles at high velocities. XIPS requires only one propellant, xenon, and does its stationkeeping job using a fraction of that required by a chemical propellant system.
