Anhedonia, roughly defined as the diminishment or absence of the capacity to experience pleasure or joy in the performance of daily activities, is a core symptom of major depressive disorder, as well as other psychiatric illnesses.... According to the capacity theory, anhedonia is a matter of the cap on this maximum amount of pleasure being significantly lowered. An anhedonic person is simply unable to ever experience the amount of pleasure that a non-anhedonic person can, and consequently fails to experience the same amount of pleasure from certain activities as they used to. 3, record 1, English, - anhedonic%20person

The expectancy–value theory addresses whether or not children desire to participate in an activity and how much effort they are prepared to put into the activity. Thus, the theory consists of 2 major components, expectancy beliefs and subjective task values. Precisely, the level of persistence and performance in the activity is determined by their beliefs about how well they will perform the activity and values they attach to the activity. Beliefs about ability are defined as an individual' s beliefs about competence in performing or learning different achievement tasks and probability for success at a specific task. 1, record 23, English, - expectancy%20belief

This factor goes far to explain the erstwhile reluctance to expose occupiers to the discipline of a general duty of care....(However) the mere fact that the defendant happens to be an occupier does not mean his duties are necessarily and exclusively defined by his "occupancy" duties : they may well be augmented by a general duty of care as the result of some additional factor colouring his relationship to the plaintiff... 1, record 32, English, - general%20duty%20of%20care

A customary right of way is one which may be enjoyed by any member of a fluctuating body or class of persons provided that body or class is itself certain. It is regarded as a private right of way in so much as it exists only for the benefit of a limited section of the public, and it cannot be used under a claim of right by any person who is not a member of that body or class in whose favour it exists. Rights of way of this kind may exist in favour of the inhabitants of a parish or a town, or probably of any other district sufficiently well defined to be the local area of any customary right.(12 Hals., 4th, p. 24) 1, record 41, English, - customary%20right%20of%20way

The first experiments on covalent binding of a variety of proteins including enzymes as well as antigens to chemically well defined water-insoluble polymeric supports were limited to the commercial polymers available at the time--derivatized celluloses and styrene polymers.... These first steps were soon followed by other methods of coupling proteins to polymers.... The preparation of a complementary polymeric support is based on modifying the enzyme by an analogue of the monomer and then copolymerizing the resulting preparation with the monomer. This gives an enzyme chemically incorporated into the three-dimensional lattice of the polymer gel, the points of the enzyme-support binding being the centers of premodification of the enzyme molecule. 2, record 51, English, - polymeric%20support

The rate of a heterogenous enzymic reaction is attenuated by the relative slowness of the substrate diffusion to the enzyme. By analogy to the well established chemical action of inhibitors, this phenomenon can be referred to as "diffusional inhibition". In the chemical engineering literature the effect of diffusional limitations on the catalyst activity is quantitatively expressed by the effectiveness factor, [eta], which measures the departure of V from Vkin and is defined by the following relationship : V=[eta] Vkin. Thus, the magnitude of diffusional inhibition is conveniently expressed by the reciprocal of the effectiveness factor, which is a complex function of the kinetic parameters, transport coefficient, and substrate concentration. 3, record 52, English, - effectiveness%20factor

Discussions about "biotech labeling", particularly the public debate, often do not involve any definitions or explanations of what actually is covered or required, either in terms of "biotech" or "labeling". Both words can describe a variety of different technologies or label language. In a definitional sense, perhaps in contrast to consumer perception, the word "biotechnology" is a collective term encompassing a number of technologies, some old, others new(Korwek, 1997). The Office of Technology Assessment(OTA, 1984) defined it as processes using living organisms or parts thereof to make or modify products, to improve plants, animals, or to develop microorganisms for specific uses. This definition and others make it clear that the term "biotechnology" can be broad, encompassing a variety of traditional technologies and products thereof, such as bread, cheese, and hybrid corn, as well as newer genetic technologies, such as recombinant DNA(rDNA) techniques. 1, record 65, English, - biotech%20labelling

In interactional or non targeted sports... it is the failure of one of the teams to take a positive action that results in a score for the opposing team. That is, there is no definite delimited well defined scoring action. Any legal positive action taken by the offense can result in a score(can constitute a scoring action) if the other team cannot respond by keeping the action going.... An action scores if the defense cannot make a positive action. There is also correspondingly no distinctive defensive action : positive actions are simultaneously defensive actions. 2, record 77, English, - positive%20action

Simultaneous engineering is understood to mean an integrated, parallel approach to designing the product and the process at the same time, e.g. in vehicle development. The basic idea of this concept is to move from formerly strictly sequential, discrete processes towards carrying them out in parallel or overlapping them. 3, record 78, English, - simultaneous%20engineering
Record number: 78, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Design process is defined as being the whole of the tasks necessary for an idea, originating from customer needs, to be achieved as a product or service satisfying the said customer's needs. Some of these tasks are sequential, but as the "time to market"(development cycle) has to be shorter every day, several tasks are led in parallel : risk studies are launched even before having finished the functional analysis, etc... This concept is named Simultaneous Engineering, or Competing Engineering or Integrated Development. It is supported by a serie of methodologic tools, based on quality(Quality Function Deployment-QFD, Value Analysis, Functional Analysis, FMEA, Design For Manufacturing,...) and organization(Project Group, Process Organization,...) as well as on technologic means(Computer Assisted Design, Computer Assisted Manufacturing, Fast Prototype Process,...). 2, record 78, English, - simultaneous%20engineering

Cargo Handling Interface Assembly. The CHIA is an external support equipment which provides interfaces between the cargo items and the ULC [Unpressurized Logistics carrier] in orbit, during the assembly and maintenance operations of the ISS [International Space Station]. Its basic design will interface plates or boxes where cargo items can be accommodated. The CHIAs will provide heating as well as a data bus to verify that the cargo items are in operational conditions and within their safety margins. Brazil will supply a series of CHIAs in quantities and shapes to be defined. Vegetation monitoring has been one of the main focal points of remote sensing study since remote sensing research began. Many vegetation indices, using red and infrared reflectance, have been devised. The Perpendicular Vegetation Index(PVI), Ratio Index and Normalized Vegetation Index are among the well known indices of this type. The Perpendicular Vegetation Index, proposed by Richardson and Wiegand(1977), was defined as the distance from the soil line on a scatter plot of near infrared(NIR) versus red reflectance. The pixel vectors of bare land in such plots vary with soil moisture content. The PVI was developed as a vegetation index to effectively monitor the vegetation biomass without being affected by differences in soil background. 3, record 97, English, - perpendicular%20vegetation%20index
