The world’s first laboratory-grown beef burger was flipped out of a petri dish and into a frying pan on Monday, with food tasters declaring it tasted "close to meat." Grown in vitro from cattle stem cells at a cost of 250,000 euros ($332,000), the burger was cooked and eaten in front of television cameras to gain the greatest media coverage for the culmination of a five-year science experiment. Resembling a standard circular-shaped red meat patty, it was created by knitting together 20,000 strands of laboratory-grown protein, combined with other ingredients normally used in burgers, such as salt, breadcrumbs and egg powder. Red beet juice and saffron were added to give it color. 1, record 4, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger

The first laboratory-produced meat patty (cultured beef burger) presented in London on August 5, 2013, by Dr. Mark Post, a physiologist from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, was dubbed the "Frankenburger." The professor and his colleagues produced the meat-like substance by cultivating muscle tissue from cow stem cells in fetal serum and other growth-promoting materials (vitamines, amino acids, growth hormones, sugar, etc.). The laboratory-grown meat at this stage of development is prohibitively expensive, but might one day become a substitute for "real" meat. The product needs to be enhanced to improve its texture, taste and appearance. Some scientists predict that cultured meat might be commercially available within a decade. Others say that it will be possible to grow it in one’s own kitchen within 20 years. 13, record 4, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 2 OBS
The development of meat substitutes is praised on ethical grounds by animal rights or welfare activists since these products have the potential to greatly reduce the inhumane raising and slaughtering of animals raised for meat. Environmentalists, economists and scientists support these products since they might one day be a cost-effective means of meeting world demands for meat, while greatly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste, as well as the use of water, farmland and animal feed that make intensive animal farming unsustainable. On the other hand, natural food advocates have serious doubts concerning ingredients needed to grow and enhance these products, and the long term safety of their consumption; and meat industry proponents argue that the technology still requires stem cell donors(the cells from a single donor cannot replicate indefinitely) and that the product remains a far cry from "real" meat. Only time will tell if these products will, in a perhaps not so distant future, entirely replace, or only supplement, the meat industry. 13, record 4, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger

cultured beef hamburger: A "hamburger" is a minced beef patty. Terms such as "cultured beef hamburger" could therefore be considered pleonastic. The term "burger" is the shortened form of "hamburger." While burgers are traditionally made of beef, non-beef burgers have become popular, and modifiers such as "veggie," "tuna," "chicken," "nut," and "soya" are used to describe them. Given this relatively new reality, the use of seemingly pleonastic terms such as "cultured beef burger" may be justified. 13, record 4, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 4 OBS
The combination of terms such as "hamburger," "cultured," "laboratory," "in vitro" and their short forms to create neologisms designating this product yields an impressive number of synonyms. This will remain the case as long as terminology used to describe this relatively new concept is not well established. 13, record 4, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 5 OBS
synthetic hamburger; artificial hamburger: The terms "synthetic meat" and "artificial meat" designate products that imitate meat but that are not necessarily laboratory-grown from animal cells. Hence, the use of qualifiers such as "synthetic" and "artificial" might lead to confuse a cultured hamburger with, for example, a soy-based burger. 13, record 4, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 6 OBS
Terms such as "Frankenburger" that do not include the modifier "beef" might very well be used some day to designate similar laboratory-grown products made from animal cells other than beef. 13, record 4, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger

Since 1992, the French Institute of Youth and Community Education(INJEP) is entrusted with the responsibility to implement the different activities. Given this new orientation and the belief of the Government of Québec that the promotion of the French language throughout Canada and the continent is an essential element in Québec' s political, economic, social and cultural prosperity, a new policy was required. Both rooted in history and turned towards the future, the new Québec Policy on the Canadian Francophonie is thus, on the one hand, an indication that Québec intends to play a determining role within the Canadian Francophonie, and, on the other hand, a recognition of the fact that the Francophone and Acadian communities, primarily, as well as Francophone immigrants and Francophiles, are extremely important interlocutors and actors for the protection and promotion of the French fact in North America. 1, record 13, English, - Qu%C3%A9bec%20Policy%20on%20the%20Canadian%20Francophonie

An analytical solution is one that can be explicitly written down, also called a closed form solution. Analytical solutions can not be found for many partial differential and ordinary differential equations(most in fact). In the case when an analytical solution has not been found yet, numerical methods may be applied to get an approximate solution. For instance a well known equation with an analytical solution is the wave equation. On the other hand, a well known equation that doesn’t have an analytical solution is the Navier-Stokes equation. 3, record 21, English, - analytical%20solution

[Avalanche Victim Search. ] The initial search involves a fast scan of the entire area where victims might be found(that is, from the last seen point, within the perimeters of the avalanche, and in the deposition areas). It concentrates on likely areas of burial in addition to listening for transceiver signals and looking for clues on the surface. Initial searchers should be equipped with transceivers, probe, and shovel as well as a few wands if available. Do a visual search for clues on the surface(that is, hand, foot, clothing, and equipment). Call out occasionally and listen for responses from victims. Pull any items found out on the snow to see if a victim is attached. Mark the location of found items and bring them to the attention of the rescue leader. Listen carefully for transceiver signals in these locations.(If victims were not wearing transceivers or if is unknown whether transceivers were used, quickly probe the area around found items.) If a transceiver signal is found, carry out a transceiver search. If there is more than one person buried, the initial search continues to look for visual clues, etc. 2, record 23, English, - visual%20search%20for%20surface%20clues

Dextre [Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator] is designed so that only one arm can move at a time in order to avoid self-collision, achieve greater stability and maintain operational similarity with Canadarm2. The greater stability is provided by the immobile arm, which is first commanded to anchor Dextre to an ISS [International Space Station] stabilization point. At the tip of each arm, we find a "hand", known technically as the Orbital Replacement Unit/Tool Changeout Mechanism(OTCM). The OTCM consists of a set of parallel retractable jaws, which serve to grip payloads and tools. Each OTCM is also equipped with a retractable motorized socket wrench to mate and demate mechanisms on-orbit, as well as lights and a black and white camera. Dextre lower body is equipped with a pair of pan/tilt colour cameras that allow astronauts aboard the ISS, and engineers on the ground, to monitor the task, which is out of direct eyesight. 1, record 29, English, - orbital%20replacement%20unit%2Ftool%20changeout%20mechanism

1, record 29, French, - changeur%20d%27outils%20et%20d%27unit%C3%A9s%20rempla%C3%A7ables%20sur%20orbite

The impervious nature of rubbers and plastics often results in the accumulation of sweat on the inner surface [of rubber and plastic gloves]. Destruction of prize. Since through adjudication by the Prize Courts the ownership of captured private enemy vessels becomes finally transferred to the belligerent whose forces made the capture, it is evident that after transfer the captured vessel as well as her cargo may be destroyed. On the other hand, it is likewise evident that, since a judgment of a Prize Court is necessary before the appropriation of the prize becomes final, a captured merchantman must not, as a rule, be destroyed on capture instead of being conducted to the port of adjudication. There are, however, exceptions to the rule, but no unanimity exists in theory or practice as regards those exceptions. 2, record 48, English, - destruction%20of%20prize
