WELL HEAD PRESSURE [7 records]

Record 1 2010-04-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Equipment (Oil and Natural Gas Extraction)
  • Oil Drilling
  • Petroleum Technology - Safety
CONT

A stabbing valve is kept on the work floor to put into tubing if needed, when the well begins blowing in. ... The stabbing valve must ... (a) be a National Association of Corrosion Engineers rated full opening valve with the proper threads to mate to the completion string thread in use; (b) the stabbing valve must have a pressure rating equal to or greater than the blow out preventer pressure rating; (c) extended bails must be used to allow string weight to be borne by the tubing, rather than the stabbing valve; (d) the stabbing valve must not be used as a working valve; (e) the stabbing valve must be stored in an area immediately accessible to the well bore.

CONT

Every drilling installation should be equipped with ancillary well control equipment consisting of... at least two stabbing valves with appropriate cross-over subs to fit each type of connection in the drilling assembly which should be designed to be safely and quickly installed in the drilling assembly and closed to isolate and control pressure in the drill stem to allow the kelly or high pressure circulating head to be installed.

  • Outillage (Extraction du pétrole et du gaz)
  • Forage des puits de pétrole

Record 2 2007-08-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Drilling
DEF

Condition for working coiled tubing through a pressurized stripper, where wellbore pressure applied against the cross-sectional area of the tube creates an upward acting force greater than the weight of the tubing in the wellbore.

CONT

Snubbing usually requires an array of wireline blocks and wire rope that forces the pipe or tools into the well through a stripper head or blowout preventer until the weight of the string is sufficient to overcome the lifting effect of the well pressure on the pipe in the stripper.

OBS

snubbing: A term used to describe the process of removing or installing pipe into a pressurized well bore, using specialized equipment including blowout preventers in a special arrangement.

OBS

In this condition, mechanical assistance is required to apply thrust to the tubing while injecting or to maintain control of the tubing when extracting. This condition is commonly called "light pipe operations."

OBS

pressure control: commonly referred to as snubbing; running of tool and/or pulling of tubing under well pressure.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Forage des puits de pétrole
DEF

Technique d'intervention sur un puits non neutralisé par introduction d'éléments tubulaires sous pression.

Record 3 2004-09-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Equipment (Oil and Natural Gas Extraction)
  • Petroleum Distillation
DEF

A sealing device used to close the annular space around the kelly when drilling with pressure at the surface, usually installed above the main blowout preventers.

CONT

A rotating head makes it possible to drill ahead even when there is pressure in the annulus that the weight of the drilling fluid is not overcoming. The head prevents the well from blowing out.

Key term(s)
  • rotating BOP
  • rotating blow out preventer

  • Distillation du pétrole
DEF

[Dispositif utilisé] généralement sur l'annulaire pour permettre de réaliser certaines opérations en pression, forage à l'air, forage à la mousse.

Record 4 2004-01-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Petroleum Deposits
  • Natural Gas and Derivatives
DEF

Low pressure gas produced at the well head of a well that is primarily oil-producing, it helps to bring oil to the surface and is rich in heavy hydrocarbons.

CONT

Casing head gas can be employed to power equipment on the rig; it can be compressed and reinjected to help oil flow, or it is sometimes flared.

OBS

casing-head gas: So named as it is usually collected, or separated from the oil, at the casing head.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Gisements pétrolifères
  • Gaz naturel et dérivés
DEF

Gaz enfermé par la tête de tubage ou, en général, gaz de toute couche sus-jacente au pétrole.

Record 5 2001-03-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Production
CONT

Once backpressure was put on the formation, it shut the production down. In our particular case, one of the reasons it did was that we had low formation pressure. We developed a casing blow system in which instead of conveying the flash steam for the well bore to the atmosphere to keep the pressure off the formation, we started collecting that casing head steam and its accompanying distilled products.

Key term(s)
  • casing blow

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Drilling
DEF

To put pipe or tools into a high pressure well that has not been killed (i.e., to run pipe or tools into the well against pressure).

OBS

Snubbing usually requires an array of wireline blocks and wire rope that forces the pipe or tools into the well through a stripper head or blowout preventer until the weight of the string is sufficient to overcome the lifting effect of the well pressure on the pipe in the stripper.
