Subject field(s)

  • Animal Feed (Agric.)
CONT

Forage: Buckwheat straw is low in feeding value, containing on a dry matter basis about 4 per cent crude protein, 40 per cent crude fiber, and a TDN of about 40 per cent. Buckwheat straw, green fodder and grain may cause peculiar eruptions and intense itching of white and light colored portions of the skin.

CONT

Buckwheat straw is sometimes used for feed when well preserved, but may cause digestive disturbances when fed in large amounts.

CONT

Mechanical exploration activities at the Chehrabad Saltmine, Province Zanjan, Iran... offered sudden insight in prehistoric saltmining, when well preserved remains of five salt mummies, victims of a catastrophal mining accident, with clothes, tools and other equipment had been discovered in the years 1994, 2004 and 2005.

CONT

The Tall Ships’ Races, formerly known as the "Cutter Sark Tall Ships’ Races, "are long-distance races for sailing ships. The races were originally sponsored by Berry Brothers and Rudd-marketers of Cutty Sark Scotch Whisky(the Cutty Sark being their trademark as well as a preserved tea clipper lying at Greenwich in London). The races are held annually in European waters and consist of two racing legs of several hundred nautical miles, and a "cruise in company" between the legs. The Cutty Sark was in 1869 one of the last sailing clippers to be built, and she is the only classic clipper still surviving. She is now preserved in dry dock at Greenwich in London. Cutty Sark has inspired the name of a brand of whisky. An image of the ship appears on the label, and the maker has sponsored the Cutty Sark Tall Ships’ Race.

OBS

The ethnographic museum occupies a restored Qatari house with a wind tower, built in the early 20th century. Wind towers were a feature of traditional houses; they caught even the slightest breeze and funnelled the cooler air down into the house.

CONT

Wind Tower. A handful still exist in most of the region's cities, sometimes on people's homes, and sometimes carefully preserved or reconstructed at museums.... Traditional wind towers rise five or six meters above a house. They are usually built of wood or stone but can also be made from canvas. The tower is open on all four sides and catches even small breezes. The breeze create a low pressure zone which will draw air up from the house causing to create natural ventilation. The towers work amazingly well. Sitting beneath a wind tower even on a hot day you will feel a consistent breeze even when the outside air feels heavy and still.

CONT
